Nowhere Slow

Chapter 1

The vampire crashed down onto the fresh earth with a grunt. Its eyes grew wide in surprise and the demon leapt to its feet. It snarled at its attacker. “Mortal! I will crush you!”

The young man ran his fingers through his spiked blue hair, annoyed. In his other hand, he twirled a wooden stake; a vampire’s death. “We’ll see...” he looked to the gravestone to the side of the vampire. “Timothy.” He grinned.

The beast gave out a scream as it charged the man, who in turn, sidestepped and used the enemies’ own momentum to throw it to the ground.

“Ahh!” It tried to get up again, but the teenager now had his steel-toed boot on its throat.

“I don’t think we were introduced,” stated the young man. “They call me Bunker, and you’re...” he rammed the stake into the vampire’s chest and pulled it back again just as the being turned to dust. “Dead.”

“I’m not sure how I really real about that... dancing and all.” Said Willow nervously.

“Well, that would kinda be the point of a dance... to dance.” Oz replied slowly. They stopped at Willow’s sticker-covered locker and she opened it, placing a her history book from the last period inside.

“Do I know how to dance?” She asked herself. I don’t think I ever learned. Actually, I’ve never been to a school dance before...” The two had been going out for some time, she wasn’t afraid of looking dumb in front of him, but Willow wasn’t really a ‘dancing’ kind of person.

“Ah, sure ya do!” commented Xander as he walked up from behind. He giggled. “Remember at the 5th grade Halloween dance when you tried to bust-a-move and you trip-”

Willow’s eyes went wide. “Shut up! Just shut up, I remember,” she said quickly.

Oz smiled. “No, no, please elaborate, Xander.”

Willow hit her boyfriend hard on the arm. “Stop egging him on.” She turned to Xander. “And YOU... you... need to forget those kind of things...”

“But it’s so fun making you turn red, Will.”

“Clowns!” shouted Willow at Xander. “Big clowns with knives!”

Xander suddenly grew very tense, looking around the hall. “Uh... Point taken, Will, I better be getting to gym.” He shuffled off before she could seriously embarrass him.

“You’re EVIL.” Said Oz, laughing.

Willow gave him a little half smile. “I know, that’s why you want me so bad.”

Giles stood on the other side of the desk holding a metal bookend in a hand, looking quite distraught. “Try again.”

Buffy sat in the chair with a black cloth covering her eyes. “Um... Is it a book?” she asked hopefully.

Giles sighed deeply. “Again, it is not a book, Buffy. Reach out, try to feel what the object is.”

“Look, Giles, I’m not Luke Skywalker here. I can’t use the force, and I DON’T know what you have in your hands!” she yelled, ripping off the blindfold. “Ha! I was half right, I said book, and it’s a book END. So there, half point for Buff.”

“All right, I see this is a pointless exercise.” The Watcher said in failure.

“More like impossible. Was this another one from the Watcher Council?”

“Well, I’ll give you a point for that one, at least. Yes, the Council told me to have you perform this task.”

Buffy shook her head. “You can tell them to shove their tasks, Giles. I’m getting pretty sick of them all.”

Giles nodded, cleaning his glasses on his shirt. “As am I.” He replaced the glasses and looked to his watch. “Well, school’s just about out. Be careful on your patrol tonight, there’s been increased activity lately.”

Buffy grabbed his backback and walked out of the library. “Aren’t I always?” she asked with a smile.

Chapter 2

He sat on a tree branch, watching the silent graveyard below. Boring, he thought to himself, knawing on the end of his stake with his teeth. Sunnydale, which was supposedly Vampireville, was the most boring little town he’d ever had the misfortune to visit. Anything to be back in Seattle, watching a good punk show or something... Hell, it doesn’t ever rain here...

Suddenly, things started to look a little better. Looking down, Bunker had his gaze locked on teenaged girl. Blonde hair, great body... and carrying a stake? Interesting.

The girl stopped in her tracks, raising a curious eyebrow. Bunker thought he’d been heard from his perch in the tree, but soon found that it wasn’t he she’d heard.

“Here, vampy vampy...” she taunted. From the shadow of a large group of trees, two vampires appeared in unison.

They snarled like vampire’s always do, and surrounded her. One licked his lips, thinking he was about to get himself a nice meal. The other had already spotted her stake, but thought the frail young specimen before him wouldn’t put of much of a fight. He was sorely mistaken.

“So, are we going to stand here and look at eachother, or are we going to fight?” said the girl with an innocent grin.

“Grrraaa!!” screamed the first vampire as he ran towards the girl, arms outstretched to grab her. He was greeted by a side kick to the gut, sending him backwards. The kick was followed by a knee to the face, knocking the vampire to the ground. By that time, the other had the jump on the Slayer.

Buffy was in a head lock before she’d knew what hit her. “Play nice!” she yelled, flipping the vamp over her head. They proceeded with a fist fight, lasting nearly a minute. She could tell this vampire had taken some martial arts before he’d died...

Although Bunker’s attention was on the battle below, he’d managed to spot another pair of demons making their way into the graveyard, one carrying a wooden baseball bat. Uh oh... this can’t be good...

The newcomers charged as Buffy’s back was turned, one connected with the bat. “Watch it!” screamed Bunker from the tree.

The Slayer managed to let out an “Unf” as she hit the grass.

Bunker didn’t waste any time. He dropped from the tree behind two of them, and smashed their heads together, sending them to the ground. The other two were startled at the appearance of the man for a moment. He took that moment to punch one in the face and kick the other in the groin. Both of the vampires grunted. Bunker reached down at took the baseball bat, raised it in the air, and broke it over one’s back. “Don’t you know this thing is dangerous?” he asked, ramming the remaining section of it into it’s heart.

“Oh, you’re so dead.” Called the vampire from behind.

Without looking, Bunker rammed the bat/stake into it, spun and caught it’s friend beside him in the chest. “Ouch...”

The last vampire rose for the ground, searching for his pals. “What th-“ it started.

Bunker tossed the stake, hitting the demon in the chest. “No..” it said, grabbing the stake that protruded from it’s chest. It vanished in a cloud of dust.

The girl leapt up after regaining consciousness. “Who?! Where are... huh?” she asked, confused. She turned to look at the only other person in the graveyard.

“You took a nasty hit there, you okay?” asked the young blue haired guy in front of her.

Buffy tried to remember where she’d been hit... Oh, yes, the back. With a bat... “Oh, I’m fine, I’ve had worse,” she said. “You... took care of the rest of them?” Buffy asked, astonished.

He walked over and kicked the dust on the ground with his boot. “Well, someone had to, right?”

Buffy’s face grew red, knowing she let the vamps get the best of her. Knowing this... regular kid had done what she could not. “I suppose I should thank you, I’d probably be dead if it wasn’t for you. Thanks.”

“No problemo,” he said. “By that stake in your hand I’m guessing you’re Buffy, eh?”

Again, she was astonished. “That’s right, and you would be..?”

“Bunker, the Vampire Slayer,” he said with a grin.

Her eyes went wide, nodding slowly.
