ar'ldan is a super-strong hardwood native to the Citadel of Smoking Rain region that is also called "fiend wood." This is a relative newcomer to the plant kingdom, and has transplanted well to other regions. Speculation that it was created by the abyssal influences of Hell's Gap is only partially correct. It was in fact, native to the abyssal plain that Hell's Gap originated in. It used to be a small bush, but the lack of competition has caused it to grow as a tree. The elves had no knowledge of this tree prior to the Hell's Gap disaster.

Due to it's abyssal origins, the har'ldan is stronger than tempered steel(+8 vs crushing blow). In fact, it is so strong, that only magically enhanced tools forged for this specific task can be used to work it. If available, a psionically duo-dimensioned device will also cut it, though there is a 90% chance of the item being ruined forever after this usage.
