Aka: the quick way to destroy a dwarven citadel, or ooops
by Chasmyr
his area used to be the site of the massive dwarven citadel Del'Garath. Several drow sorcerors, working in conjunction with a group of duergar psionicists, managed to swap the entire area for a portion of an abyssal layer. The desired effect was out of their control, and they ended up departing Mysaniti with the citadel of Del'Garath. No one knows what happened to the occupants of the citadel, but bloody conclusions have been drawn...
Prior to being pulled into Mysaniti, Hell's Gap was an Abyssal staging area for a tanar'ri horde. This caused an extremely large number of fiends to be present when the Gap was pulled into Mysaniti.
However, the tanar'ri commanders found that the formerly "inexhaustible" supply of larvae and petitioners to resupply their forces was no longer available. As a result, the tanar'ri horde has been forced into extremely conservative tactics. This has also resulted in a rise in importance of any succubi, cambions, and alu-fiends that may be around. This is due to their reproductive abilities.
This area still retains the properties inherent with it's other planar origin, allowing outer planar weapons to be counted as a little closer to their home planes in some cases.
The Citadel of the Smoking Rain was founded in an effort to defend against the fiendish hordes that found themselves loosed upon Mysaniti.
Harl'dan wood is commonly believed to be the only beneficial twisting of life from Hell's Gap.
