The History of the Citadel of Smoking Rain

his citadel was a trading post for trade between lost Del'Garath and the elven nation. When Del'Garath was cast into the Abyss by the drow and duergar, it earned the name of smoking rain as the dwarven refugees and elven forces held out against the hordes of tanar'ri who poured into Moradin's Basin. While vastly out numbered the forces fought and survived until the tanar'ri could be driven back, even though the outpost itself had fallen. Though the original "citadel" fell long before the tanar'ri could be driven back, a new one has been built and named in honor of it and the blood it spilled. The name "Smoking Rain" is a direct reference to a tale of one of the first battles of the tanar'ri invasion. It was so fierce, that the falling blood of slain tanar'ri fell like smoking rain upon the battlements.

The current commandant has a little known reason to see the tanar'ri stay bottled up within Hells Gap. He is the cambion product of the rape of an elvish princess by a balor. He is known to be a spellcaster and a consumate warrior in his own right, dedicated to keeping the tanar'ri in Hells Gap. He has allowed other individuals of fiendish descent(tieflings and cambions) of a good inclination to join the forces at the Citadel. This has resulted in several long-lived individuals gathering here, with a commensurate increase in the available expertise.
