Cori-Ai

Well this rounded out the main characters in danger stories. Sam in Emancipation, Jack in Brief Candle and Daniel in Fire and Water (as well as a few others). The thing this show does better than other such as the X-Files (in most cases) is that you actually believe that something could happen (except Emancipation) and it's not simply a gimmick to get viewers to watch.

Plot

SG-1 arrives at a planet that Teal'c has been to when first prime for Apothsis. The son of one of the victims then confronts him. He is then placed through Cori-Ai, where he confesses to doing the act. It's then up to SG-1 to prove that Teal'c has changed, and leads to some of the most touching scenes in the series. Jack and Sam go back to earth to get re-enforcement's when it's clear that Teal'c will be sentenced to death. Daniel is left to fight for Teal'c through words. On Jack and Sam's return they find that serpent guards are there. Teal'c saves the lives of some of the locals. He is told he has killed the old Teal'c and that he is free to go "home".

Gripes

Teal'c chose Skarra at the base camp. He did chose her to be Goa'uld, like to know when Daniel found this out.

Nice Touches

To have Daniel talk about how he felt about Teal'c, in respect to his wife's abduction. I like the fact that Colonel O'Neil fights through words with little respect for the locals, in the end deciding to go for the guns to save his friend. Daniel chose to fight with words, but when he fails to help Teal'c he hopes Jack comes back with re-enforcement's.

Acting

Christopher Judge is really fantastic in this episode as Teal'c. He plays his character's stolic acceptance of his fate no matter what his friends think realistically of the honour bound Teal'c. I especially like when he talks to Richard Dean Anderson about his previous crimes. Speaking of which Richard Dean Anderson is great as He accepts Teal'c decision and tries to help him through the trial before going to his gut plan of a break out. Michael Shanks is good as he portrays fascination for the culture and the fact it's not only this but Teal'c wishes that make him chose to fight by words. It is also some of the scenes between Anderson and Shanks, where O'Neill is feed up with Daniel's attitude even though the younger man is just trying to help in his own way, which are actual scene stealers. Amanda Tapping and Don S. Davis give fine support in their roles.

Writer

Tom J. Astle does a great job of capturing Teal'c's personality since he has joined SG-1 and some of the personality clashes between Colonel Jack O'Neill and Dr. Daniel Jackson gives flashes of the movie that started the series. The plot is realistic and believable as Teal'c was bound to go to a world where he had hurt somebody and their family would want revenge. The reaction of his friends and the general are in line with what their characters would do. Astle not only developed Teal'c but Jack and Daniel as well.
