THE NOX
This is one of the best episodes, cause not only is Jack frustrated during it, but so are the others especially Daniel at the start. It also sees the return of Apothsis and Daniel thinking about his wife. It also introduces aliens that are superior intellectually to our earth heroes.
The Plot
Secretary of Defence visits and asks questions most importantly about technologies that can be found. Teal'c then tells them of a world where an animal contains stealth ability. SG-1 is given the mission to obtain one of the animals, when they arrive at the planet they find Apothsis is come a hunting as well. Daniel argues to go after him, this action gets the human members of SG-1 killed, and Teal'c in front of his old boss. However all of SG-1 and a injured guard disappear. SG-1 wakes up to find out that they are alive and that some humanoid aliens are the ones who did it. Shakel the Jaffa guard leaves telling Apothsis that it is the Nox that has the stealth powers and that SG-1 is there as well. SG-1 tries and argues that they need their weapons to defend the pacifist. The Nox try to teach them that they can defend themselves in their own way. SG-1 decided to defend them anyway, however it backfires when they get very close to catch Apothsis only to seem him disappear, because of the Nox. In the end the Nox show them why the defend the Fenri and how they survive in the clouds. They do however bend by saying they will bury the Stargate.
Gripes
1) For an arsenal of mainly tranquilliser darts they do a pretty good job in fighting Apothsis.
Favourite Scene or Nice touches.
Daniel arguing to go after Apothsis. He is able to convince Jack and Teal'c and eventually Sam. The irony is that Apothsis kills them. And Jack with the little Nox boy, Nafrayu. It was a nice touch that the Nox learnt English and just didn't speak it. And the SG-1 team still had their damaged clothes.
Acting
This was such a great job, by not only the regular cast, but the guest cast as well. The people who played the Nox had you at the end wishing that they didn’t have to bury the gate. I’m actually interested to see what else they have acted in. Peter Williams facial reactions to the SG-1 team disappearing from right in front of him was fantastic as was when he stands in front of Jack knowing his shield and superior weapons will kill him and his team. The Nox were wonderful, from their curiosity over the humans and their quietness and strong emotions to the weapons and violence. Everyone including the guest cast had me believing that what they thought was right.
Writer
Hart Harson writer made this episode so enjoyable. They had a great grasp on the characters, not only the previously introduced ones, but the new ones as well. It was refreshing to see the pacifist win it made it all the more enjoyable. It was also good to see Daniel’s love for Sha'uri, blind him to the stupidity of what he was thinking. And I also like it when as one SG-1 member fell one of the others would come out for revenge, it show how they have developed as a team the they would sacrifice themselves to save one of the others.
9.5 Machine Guns out of 10 Bow and Arrows
