THE BROCA DIVIDE

This would be one of the top five episodes, of the series. It also offers a new working combination in that for most of the episode Daniel and Teal'c work together. Though this episode does start to set Daniel up in some ways as the weak link in the team, but that’s a personal gripe. This episode shows what can go wrong when coming from a different world.

The Plot

The SGC has found where the Goa'uld namely Sha'uri, Skaara and Apothsis have gone. So SG-1 and the SG-3 marines (poetry), they head off to the designated world. When they arrive they are attack by some primitive people, they then find out about the touched and untouched. Jack dismisses the opportunity to study the locals. Most of the SGC gets infected with a virus, that the two teams brought back with them. Yet Daniel and Teal'c are immune. Teal'c symbiont dose that job, the question becomes how come Daniel and the untouched have no symptoms. Daniel and Teal'c go back, but Daniel is lost helping a local girl that they ran into earlier. Teal'c gets the blood needed to figure out the solution to the problem. Dr Fraiser finds the solution from Daniel, the untouched and herself. Anti-histamines used by her and Daniel protected them from the virus. Jack voluntaries to use the drug needed to cure him of the virus if it works. SG-1 then goes to find Daniel and help the locals' curer the touched people.

Gripes

1) Who saw the symbols nobody was close enough to see it since Jack was the closes in "Children of the Gods" even closer than the people who fled.

2) They seem to realise that since the Goa'uld have not been there for a while. Then obviously the Stargate map is Ra’s only or the Goa'uld have uncharted worlds as well as the charted ones. Yet this is never dealt with or brought up at all.

3) Daniel nearly looses all his clothes yet melocia’s dress isn’t even ripped. In her first scene you would think that it would have been ripped somewhat.

4) Didn't the locals mention it that the touched were the untouched? Daniel should get his hearing tested.

5) I don’t actually hate this gripe, but Daniel as the leader of the pack. I don’t think so! But as a Daniel/Michael Shanks fan I don’t care.

And the regulars

Favourite Scene or Nice touches.

Actually, there is no one scene I like the most, but id I had to pick one, it would be, Daniel fighting about the importance of the cultural research only to be told the president has okayed it.

Acting

Teryl Rothery as Dr Fraiser is a nice improvement, to the cast. She plays her with care and concern over her patients and has great chemistry with Richard Dean Anderson. Richard Dean Anderson had a interesting role; he got to play caveman to Daniel, later with a look of a caveman and slower speech he tries to help Dr Fraiser find a curer. Christopher Judge finally gets a chance to show as much emotions as possible for a Jaffa. Actually it’s not till I started to write these reviews did I realise, how much he dose with the little possible emotions. He portrays Teal'c worried about Jack and Sam and later Daniel. Amanda Tapping has next to nothing but for the little she dose have she is really interesting, especially when trying to crack on to Jack, or trying to break the restraints. Don S. Davis gets to play a couple of new emotions for his character, first is the fear that this could spread to general population, while he is worried about his crew. I would have loved to have seen more of him as a caveman. Michael Shanks gets a great run with this episode. He is allowed to show Daniel’s determination to study the local cultures of the other worlds. Though he doesn’t get a chance to show his concern for the others he dose when it comes to Melocia. The way he is angry with her treatment, and later annoyed with trying to explain lepers to Teal'c, cause it stops him from helping her and that Teal'c wants to leave her only adds to his annoyance. His concern for Sam, when she is effected was touching, though in both cases he gets bashed for his concern. He was defiantly different as the cave man. "I though we were going to give it a better name." Was a really nice touch.

Writer

Except for a few gripes, Jonathan Glassner, I think the plot on a whole was very tight and had no scenes that were a waste, or overly dragged out. Though did Daniel really need to be bashed that many times? This episode also explains why Daniel doesn't sneeze as much as before, well all actually.

9 touched out of 10 untouched

"Yes Sir, ur. Actually Sir we found a whole hell of a lot Sir." Daniel to General Hammond.
