Background or Story:
Jur'is came to Haven after a long and legendary campaign as a mercenary. His work was very specialized and he liked to consider it a matter of equalizing the balance of power in ways 'other than on the battlefield'. Haven was enough out of the way for his reputation and identities to not follow him.
He lived for a while as a peaceful man, a gardener and neighbor of the people. This lasted for nearly 4 years. But the call of the weapons and of his life was strong. When he went to Headmaster Armest with an innocent request to observe the training at his School of Battle, he was immediately struck with a way to satisfy both his desire for peace and his call to the sword. He offered to become a weapons instructor for Armest.
Armest, an intelligent and wise former warrior himself, recognized the 'unique' talents of Jur'is. His weapons skill and training abilities were just what Armest needed, though, and he accepted the half-elf for what he claimed to be. And, eventually, when Jur'is took on a few select students for further training, Armest allowed it, knowing that the unique skills of the Slashing Death Mercenary were always valuable to the good side of conflicts as they were to the bad. He guessed at Jur'is's true identity, but never encountered the man about it.
Jur'is gave up his town life and house, and lived at the school, relishing in teaching students about swords, knives, bows and the like. He was a master in every form of weaponry that were familiar to these country boy trainees and they marveled at his skills and all wanted to learn from him. To be selected as a special trainee by the weapon's master was a significant honor. Every boy wanted it, and so few were chosen. Once they were chosen all the skills that they learned in secret were kept from the rest of the school. Even the most talkative student became quiet and devoted to the secrecy of Jur'is's training.
Armest enjoyed the company. Armest enjoyed the training. And, as much as he hated to admit it, the underground knowledge that the world's best assassins came from his school would be a great boon in the future. He and Jur'is became true and fast friends.
