Postmaster For An Idiot

Dear PostalMag: I was an employee of the post office for 21 years, and the first 4 years were great and I felt proud about my job. But then our postmaster retired and we got this idiot from Stockdale post office who was at that time a trouble maker for the post office. Anyway, they went ahead and promoted this idiot to the position of postmaster for the city of Shafter Post Office. His name is John xxxxx. This man made my life miserable for some 13 or so years at the office. I have diabetes and high blood pressure and both of these were out of control because of the HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT that this idiot made for me at the office. I had to retire earlier than expected because of my health. I believe that the post office will not make it in the near future because of management and the way the post office runs things. I for one am glad to get out of this HELL HOLE! I will always discourage anyone who is interested in working for the postal service. It is not worth their time and energy! I could care less about this institution! It can go to HELL for all I care!

Your Truly, George Villalvazo.

What happened to service?

I am a retired Rural Carrier (with over 33 years of Federal service). I still belong to the National Rural Letter Carrier's union. The Union newsletter is scheduled to arrive every two weeks on Saturday. The August 3, 2002 edition arrived in my mailbox on 8/9/02. My 8/17/02 edition arrived today (8/31/02). These Union newsletters are flagged URGENT - TIME VALUE. Does anyone wonder what in the hell has happened to the slogans "Service with a smile" and "Service is our only commodity"? No wonder the Post office is losing customers, if these are the standards followed today.
My retirement check is "Direct Deposit" so it might get to the bank in time. I retired in October 1981! Happy retired (CSEA) Federal Employee

Frustrated Wife Sounds Off

When my husband started at the Post Office 28 years ago, it was a great place to work. Now, that is not the story. My husband is treated like a number not a person. The supervisors are only worried about getting their bonus, not about the people who work under him. My husband has a life-threatening illness. He does not want the people he works with to be aware of his condition. He submitted a Family Medical Leave form to the required person. SHE MAILED IT BACK TO HIM! What is this? It is my understanding that you submit the form and the Post Office who can deny or approve it. Now, she also told him not to submit it until he missed work. So after one of his treatments, he was ill and missed a day, he then submitted the form. The following week he had a doctor's appointment and missed apx 2 hours of work. He called in and told them he would be late. When he showed up at work they (supervisor) wanted to know where the note from the doctor was. Isn't that what the Family Medical Leave act is for? This is just one incident , there have been many things going on that are geared to make the employee's lives miserable. What ever happened to understanding that people have illness, problems etc. My husband has more sick time than he will ever be able to use! The supervisors like to degrade and embarrass employees, why is that? I believe they are trying very hard to get rid of employees who have been employees for many years and have good benefits to quit their jobs so they can be replaced with the new employees who don't earn much and don't get any benefits! What a shame, I have no respect for the postal service at all.

Don't give me something you think could be a bomb!

I appreciate the need for Aviation Security. However, as a letter carrier I have the following problem when a package that has been identified as Target Mail is being returned to the customer. (Packages weighing more than 1 pound, have stamp postage, and were placed in a collection box, are returned to the customer). According to the guidelines, it is being returned to the customer because the package fits the general profile of a letter/package bomb. O.K., this package has been identified as a potential bomb and the USPS wants me to drive around with it and take it back to the customer?!
