(see details) | (podrobnĕji zde) | ||
His principal work is
a collection of military
short stories set in an
environment of space fleet
engaged in "Star wars"
of sorts
(but only within Solar system
limits, no faster-than-light travel,
no warp and no hyper drives)
named
Bullard of the Space Patrol
(World Publishing
Co., Cleveland & New York,
v r. 1951).
Individual stories of the
collection were published
during the forties
in Astounding. All the stories are good; some of them are great, and (at least) one is superb: "Orders" - a space shootout in which not a single shot is fired. How can I be so fascinated by the work of an author who was a contemporary of my great-grandfather ? Perhaps because the stories center on people who know what they want; know what they are doing, and proudly accept responsibility for themselves, for their own actions and for their subordinates. |
Jeho stĕejní dílo je
sbírka povídek
z prostředí vesmírné
flotily a "hvĕzdnych válek"
(ovšem v mezích Sluneční
soustavy, nic nadsvĕtelného
ani hyperprostorového)
Bullard of the Space Patrol
neboli
"Bullard od Vesmírné patroly"
kterou vydala World Publishing
Co., Cleveland & New York,
v r. 1951.
Jednotlivé povídky ovšem
vycházely v průbĕhu
čtyřicátých let jednotlivĕ
v Astounding.
Všechny jsou dobré, nĕkteré
skvĕlé, a špičkova je
"Orders"
