About Ship: The Duck general purpose shuttlecraft (Romulan designation unknown) is a large personnel and cargo transport designed for transferring personnel and equipment within a solar system. Production began in 2243, and it is still in production as a civil model, with appropriately improved systems. The Duck appears to have been designed (and possibly produced) by the same group that created the Sparrow type shuttle, and it shares many superficial features with it.

Designed from the outset for use as both a military and civilian vehicle, the Duck has two features that particularly suit it to the role of a general purpose transport: a large, unobstructed, flat cargo deck from which the passenger seats can be removed and a wide aft door that lowers to form a loading ramp. The Duck was produced in three versions. The military/civilian models were differentiated only by color scheme and interior appointments. The export model did not possess the subspace distortion field generators of the others, and sublight performance was significantly less. Very few examples of the export version were produced, as it did not provide a significant performance advantage over competing designs, apart from the ease of loading and unloading.

The Duck shuttlecraft is still in production within the Romulan Star Empire, but only as a civilian model. The export model was discontinued in 2371.
