About Ship: The Gull (Romulan designation unknown) is a fast, destroyer-sized vessel used by the Romulans since approximately 2366. The Gull appears to have been designed as a fast, hard-hitting warship. It strongly resembles the Cormorant fast cruiser, and Star Fleet Intelligence (SFI) believes this vessel was actually derived from a smaller ship (designation unknown) that served as the proof-of-concept for both the Cormorant and the Gull.

The Gull is an extremely fast vessel for its size, and has been observed travelling at warp 9.7 by long ranged sensors, although power readings indicated that the vessel was proceeding at emergency speed. SFI estimates that the Gull class has a maximum cruise of about warp 9.3.

Equipped with an advanced cloaking device, the Gull is not only fast, but stealthy. Intelligence sources indicate that the Gull also has advanced shield technology and ablative armor over critical systems.

Armaments are very heavy for a vessel of this size, consisting of two very heavy disruptors similar in output to those in the Cormorant and Dderidex (forward) and one slightly less powerful disruptor firing aft. The Gull also has one plasma torpedo launcher mounted coaxial with the main sensor array (fwd).

The Gull has been detected on sensors quite a number of times (several times per year). SFI has speculated that this could be related to a problem with maintaining cloaking field integrity at high warp, but others suggest these sightings are periodically "arranged" by the Romulan military to ensure we remain aware that they are not unprepared for an attack. Total numbers of the Gull type are unknown, but SFI estimates there are approximately four Gulls for every cormorant.
