Romulan "Motherbird" intelligence report.
All specifications are estimates unless otherwise indicated.

General Specifications:

Length: 1978.9m (Confirmed)
Width: 4403.25m (Confirmed)
Height: 582m (Confirmed)
Max Warp: 3.5
Cruise: 2.05
Max. Impulse: .21 lightspeed

Crew: Unknown, but estimated at close to 5,500, including 900 crewmembers for the "fighters".

Armaments: One very heavy Plasma stream cannon (fwd), two missile bays (at "wing" roots). The exhaust may have been useful as a weapon, but this vessel was quite unwieldy and would have had difficulty bringing it to bear.

Type: Heavy Battle Carrier

About Ship: The Motherbird (Romulan designation unknown) was an enormous vessel. It was the largest ship the Romulans fielded during the war, and is possibly larger and more massive than their current line of warships. Its primary function appeared to be to provide a mobile base for up to 36 "Kestrel" sublight combat vessels.

Intelligence analysis of the design suggests that the Motherbird was an attempt to regain the initial advantage the Romulans had at the start of the war, when multiple small vessels swarmed larger Federation ships to such good effect. By this time, however, Starfleet had begun equipping its capitol ships with more effective missiles, negating that advantage.
