About Ship: The Sparrow light shuttlecraft (Romulan designation unknown) is a small personnel transport designed for transferring personnel within a solar system. Production began in 2240, and it is still in production as a civil model, with appropriately improved systems.

Designed from the outset for use as both a military and civilian vehicle, the military version was equipped with a variety of stealth-enhancing features to allow it to be used for inserting covert operatives in a hostile system. This type of mission hinged upon the ability of the mothership to enter the target system undetected. Once the Sparrow was deployed, the mothership would release decoys that would activate on command if the Sparrow was detected. This gave the covert action team a chance to either return to the mothership or use the confusion to proceed to their target undetected, if possible.

The Sparrow was produced in three different versions. The military/civilian models were differentiated only by color scheme and interior appointments, and the civilian version lacked any equipment of potential military value. The export model did not possess the subspace distortion field generators of the others, and sublight performance was significantly less. Very few examples of the export version were produced, as there was little demand for personal transportation with so little internal volume.

The Sparrow shuttlecraft is still in production within the Romulan Star Empire, but only as a civilian model. The export model was discontinued in 2371.
