A childlike Empress gives a pendant of protection, known as the Auryn, to Atreyu a young boy of the Plains people and instructs him to try and save Fantasia from the Nothing which is destroying their world. With the help of many friends along the way and Falkor, a Luck dragon, Atreyu goes through many adventures on his quest and Bastian is overlooking the whole thing.
