This is the second smallest kingdom in the alliance, yet it is the most civilized and has a high population density. The distance to the North, coupled with the proximity to the South has led to an almost indifferent attitude towards any Northern threats.
Quick Facts
There are many towns and villages spread over the southern areas of the kingdom. They are mostly farming and mining towns.
The kingdom has a large lake in the geographic center which forms part of the defenses for the capital city of Gerru.
It is a predominantly dwarven kingdom, with a high percentage of humans that have migrated here from the South for trade and farming.
Law & Order
Unusual for the Alliance, it is the only kingdom not ruled by a king. The kingdom has a senate of twelve families which constantly struggle for power amongst themselves. It is by no means democratic, though, and a rather unsavory atmosphere exists within the politics of Garm.
Senators and families of the Senate:
- Senator Grassi (human) -- The Grassi family is currently out of favor at the moment due to a scandal. Working really hard to get back on top, perhaps too hard....
- Senator Kranz (dwarf) -- Current chairman of the senate. Leads a family of great repute and the family has produced two famous generals. As a result, he has the full confidence of the army.
- Senator Estri (human) -- Up and Coming family within the senate, his family leads the Pro-Alliance faction of the senate, which is the Arak family, Drark family, and Kamil family, all dwarven.
- Senator Retsu (dwarf) -- He leads a pro-independence faction in the senate. They strive to leave the Caladon Mountain Alliance and strike out on their own. The Pagri (human) and Thrass (dwarf) families are in on it.
- The three others are truly independent of the political mumbo-jumbo....
A rigorous and professional army is based near the capital, Gerru. Garm soldiers are highly valued and it is the only kingdom in the alliance that provides acceptable troops for the southern legions.
Alliance Concerns
Domestic politics and desires always seem to take predence over alliance issues. This causes problems in Caladon where unanimous votes can be required by the council for drastic action, but the Garm councilor may be indecisive or hampered by domestic polical concerns.
This has led to conflict as others tend to find them soft and irritatingly aloof. The Garm people, in turn, tend to look down on their fellow alliance members as being rustic and uncouth....
Economy
Garm has a major lowland pass to the Soutwest. Being a lowland pass, it is open all year and has constant trade to the south. It has a good road network within stimulating trade.
Mining is the main staple of the economy, with base metals such as iron, copper, and tin. There is a vein of Mithril in the west that brings much wealth to the kingdom.
Almost all trade is done with the south.
