A young girl from Cormyr who left home to see what there to do in the world besides farming and getting drunk, she wandered into Sembia and met a few mages goofing off with each other, playing with cantrips. She became utterly excited and asked how it was done, so they led her to their master. He scoffed at the idea of a girl learning magic! "Ha! You want to be a wizard?! Oh!! Don't make me laugh any harder!"
She persisted though, and the older mage decided to let her hurt herself. 3 years later she walked away from the small town a mage ready to join a trade caravan. The 3 boys were still a year away from finishing their studies....
She immediately found work with a merchant caravan heading due west to Suzail. She figured she'd head back home and show her family what she learned, her town not being too far from Suzail. On the caravan, she met a newly ordained priest of Tymora, Paul de Gauthier. They enjoyed each other's company and decided they would split from the caravan together upon reaching Suzail.
Upon reaching Suzail, Paul had convinced Astrid to trust in her luck and continue adventuring, no need to visit home. It will probably be there in 3 or 4 months anyway. They looked and looked, before finally finding a Mercenary company that was looking for a couple of people to perform a special mission. A very dangerous mission.... They signed up, not knowing what it was (Once again, Paul's doing), and were then told that they needed to exterminate a small party of adventurers masquerading as members of their company. They liked the idea, even though they were told it was high risk.
Upon meeting the party and joining with them as ordered, they took a liking to them. They couldn't see why there was a bounty on their heads, but decided not to use the special scrolls unless it was obvious these people were doing bad. Then never proved themselves to be evil, but quite the contrary. The scrolls were used in a battle against 5 large beetles, and in the end Astrid was taken by a fireball a little too close for comfort....
