Here's a little annoyance given to me by a good friend of mine a couple of years ago.

The Quapling is a tall mushroom about 2 feet tall, with a "cap" about 7 to 12 inches in diameter. It wears a yellow "belt" around it's pedestal, and can only move by rolling, or jumping with a spring-like action. They are extremely rare.

The Quapling is very peaceful-like. It will not atack unless provoked or attacked, but it can be extremely violent. It's first action will be to inflate it's cap and deliver a lightning fast blow by jumping into the target. This can deliver up to 3d4 pts of damage. The victim must make a Dex check at -3 or fall to the ground and lose his action for that round.
It will then proceed to spit a venom from it's cap that instantly disolves metal, wood, and leather upon contact. If it reaches skin, it numbs the victim, causing one point of damage per round while the "little mushroom" smashes it's legs with a head butting atack that deals 1-2 points of damage per attack. The numbed part of the body will remain numb for 1d6 turns.

Quaplings were said to have been created by a mage long ago. Playing with mushrooms and necromantic spells, he created a guardian and equiped it with a ring of gold that would make it totally impervious to any sharp weapons. Unfortunately, it wasn't smart enough to guard his lab due to it's peaceful nature, and was thrown out. They have since been born with the strange "gold" rings, and are sought in lands for the advantages that the ring can convey. They fight to the death over the rings, and usually win due to the numbing venom.
