11/26/01 - My comments on Slipstream BBS about the forced departure of Robert Wolfe as executive producer:
Robert,
Just want to thank you so much for the depth you gave to the show. I was never active in web SF "fandom" until Andromeda, which seemed so promising that I started my own web site containing reviews of the show.
It was the depth of the stories, the characters (esp. Tyr and Rev) and the continuity/believability (plotwise and scientific) that attracted me so strongly to the show. My only fear was that it would go the way EFC did after its first season.
As you requested I will not give up on the show just yet. However, the changes that seem to be coming will almost certainly end most of my interest in the show. I will likely continue to watch and review the next few episodes, but may stop when the changes become more apparent.
Do the production executives really believe that there is not a market for intelligent TV programs? I thought you did a good job of balancing continuity and being accessible to new viewers, with maybe some fine tuning at most being needed. It was the best new series I had seen since B5 and I regret your forced departure.
I wish you the best in your future work.
Larry

11/20/00 - Two negative letters to the editor in this week's "Science Fiction Weekly" (see the letters here). An excerpt from the letter I wrote the editor in response is reprinted below:
I recently read two letters at your site which were extremely critical of the show Andromeda. I have watched SF television programs ever since the original ST series and believe that these letters are not presenting a true picture of this new show.
Andromeda is not perfect, but I think has alot of promise for many reasons including the following:
1. It has a premise rather different from previous SF series (courtesy of Gene Roddenberry).
2. It is not associated with an existing 'franchise', giving it freedom to make its own way.
their peers and do not always act in the ways SF heroes are "supposed to" act.
Any show needs time for the cast, crew and writers to gel and find a good direction. Given the potential of the premise and characters I think that it is premature to judge this show only one third of the way through its first season.

11/09/00 - Quotes from Kevin Sorbo in this week's "Science Fiction Weekly" (see the complete article):
"I still think we're going through teething pains," Sorbo told the site. "Season two will be great. I think all of us actors on the show are still trying to find our feet. We've come a long way."
"I think shows have gotten better," Sorbo said. "I think there's a couple here that didn't turn out as expected. It's interesting when you're reading scripts and you say, 'This is going to be awesome!' but when you shoot it and look at it, you go, 'Oh my God!' Of the 17 [filmed] we have three right now that I'm not crazy about. I think we can save one of them. All the shows coming up for the November sweeps are going to be unbelievable. I'm happy with about 70 percent. That's pretty good odds. On [Hercules: The Legendary Journeys], I'd be happy with about 50 percent or 40 percent.
"Right now we're still trying to figure out where the characters are going," Sorbo said. "The writing is excellent. I think we need to get back to some of the basics of what Capt. Hunt is trying to do. What he's trying to re-establish with the Commonwealth. I think we need to go out there and explore strange new worlds and not stay on the ship so much. The writers are trying to lighten the view on who's Capt. Hunt. Who's Trance? Who's Harper? Give them backstories. That will come in time. I really believe this series will go five or seven years." ___________________________________________________________________________________________
