"Helm, set course for these coordinates," the Captain
ordered. He then walked up to the Admiral and asked, "Why
are we giving up our advantage by giving the Centauri
shields?"
The Admiral smiled. "We are not. We will leave the area,
then return in six hours and attack. The other ships will
be here by then."
The Captain understood the Admiral's plan and smiled.
"They will not suspect anything."
"No, they will not, Captain."
C&C, Babylon 5
Three Hours After the Chimaera Left:
"Ivanova to Sheridan."
"Sheridan, go."
"Sir, we have three more Star Destroyers coming out of the
rift in Sector 14--two ISD's and one smaller, half the size
of the others."
"I'm on my way. Sheridan out."
ISD Death's Head, Sector 14:
"Captain, we will be in firing range of Babylon 5 in three
hours," the first officer reported.
"Good. Continue on course." the Captain ordered.
C&C, Babylon 5
The Star Destroyers Have Just Arrived:
"Captain, we are recieving a message from the lead
ship--the ISD Death's Head," Ivanova reported.
"Put it on monitor seven," the Captain ordered.
The image of a man with greying hair appeared on the
monitor. "I am Captain VEers of the ISD Death's Head. I
have been ordered here to begin trade with the Narns. The
ISD Avenger has been sent to trade with the Minbari, and
the VSD Victory has been sent to trade with Earth."
The Captain was suspicious but could not stop these ships
so he said, "Very well, Captain. Carry out your business.
Babylon 5 out."
He then turned to Ivanova and ordered that all fighters be
launched the moment they are gone and that all ships be put
on alert.
ISD Chimaera:
"Admiral, the task force has arrived. We can begin the
assault on Babylon 5 any time."
Thrawn turned to Captain Palleon.
"Begin."
C&C, Babylon 5:
"Captain, all four Star Destroyers have dropped out of
hyperspace and are launching fighters." Ivanova
reported.
"Open a channel to White Star Eleven," Sheridan ordered.
"Delenn, looks like you were right about the Imperials. Go
nuke 'em!"
"'Nuke'...them?" she asked, puzzled.
"I will explain later, he said. "Babylon 5 out." He
turned back to Ivanova. "Tell the fighters the TIE Bombers
are their primary target," he said. "Close blast doors and
FIRE!"
White Star Eleven
Delenn looked at the battle. It was not going well. The
Star Destroyers were larger, more heavily armed, and
shielded. However, her ships were powerful, extremly fast,
and agile. If the Imperials won, it would cost them
dearly.
"Lennier, target the VSD Victory and engage," she
ordered.
ISD Chimaera
"Admiral, we outnumber the enemy fighters 3 to 1 and
out-gun the enemy ships 2 to 1, sir. This should be an
easy victory."
Thrawn turned and glared at the Captain. "The Emperor and
Vader thought the same thing at Yavin, and what happened?
The Death Star was destroyed. They thought that at Endor,
and what happened? The SSD Executor, the Death Star,
several other Star Destroyers, the Emperor, Vader, and
countless fighters were lost. No, Captain. There is no
such thing as an easy victory."
C&C, Babylon 5:
"Tell the fighters to get the enemy fighters closer. They
may outnumber us but if they get close enough we can pick
them off with the light cannons," Sheridan shouted over the
sound of explosions.
"Captain, the VSD Victory's shields are weakening," Ivanova
called.
"Tell all guns to target the VSD Victory's bridge and fire
at will." he yelled back.
White Star Eleven:
Delenn's attack was going well. The VSD Victory's shields
would be down in moments and the ship would soon follow,
she thought.
"Delenn, the shield is gone!" Lennier called. Narn Heavy Cruiser:
"Sir, weapons and jump engines are down. We are dead!" the
first officer called.
"If we are going to die, let's take some of them with us!
Target the nearest enemy--full power ram!"
C&C, Babylon 5:
"Captain, we have lost six White Stars and one Minbari
warship. The two others are heavily damaged, the Narn ship
is crippled. We cannot take much more of this!" Ivanova
reported, then saw another Minbari ship go.
"Correction--we have one Minbari ship left, sir."
she added.
"Target the ISD Avenger, all weapons fire!" Sheridan
ordered.
ISD Chimaera:
"Admiral, the Avenger's shields are out." Palleon
reported.
"What is the status of our shields?" the Admiral
replied.
"Shields are at 78%, Admiral."
"Good. Target the enemy ships and destroy them," the
Admiral stated.
White Star Eleven:
The ship dove and turned, trying to evade the frantic
turbo-laser shots coming from the ISD Avenger. With its
shields gone, the gunners went crazy, trying to shoot
everything in sight, hoping to save their ship.
The ship flew over the enemy Star Destroyer, firing at the
reactor. Just as they passed over the ship the ship they
were hit from behind. "Delenn, we have been hit by several
ion cannons shots! All systems are disabled! We are going
down on Epsilon III!" Lennier called, trying to keep the
panic out of his voice.
"Brace for impact!" Delenn ordered, and White Star Eleven
crashed on the surface of Epsilon III.
Narn Heavy Cruiser:
"For the glory of Narn!" the Captain yelled, just as his
cruiser rammed the ISD Avenger and both went up in
flames.
C&C, Babylon 5:
"Captain, the Narn ship has rammed the ISD Avenger,
destroying both. Delenn's ship has crashed on Epsilon III.
The other White Stars are gone--the only ship left is the
Minbari warship," Ivanova reported. "There is no way we
can win this, John," she added.
"Damn!" he said. "Signal our surrender." he said to his
shocked first officer.
"Yes, sir." she replied softly. "Babylon 5 to ISD
Chimaera," she said to the enemy ships. "We surrender.
Repeat, we surrender."
Bridge, ISD Chimaera:
"Admiral," Palleon called, "Babylon 5 has surrendered." he
reported.
"Good, we have beaten them." the Admiral replied. "Now we
shall make an example of them, to show all in this galaxy
what happens when you defy the Empire.
"Destroy them." the Admiral said, and watched as all the
weapons on the two remaining Star Destroyers blew up the
station and the Minbari ship.
"Good, he thought, the planet is ours. "Captain, prepare
to deploy troops, AT-ST Walkers, and AT-AT Walkers on the
planet." he told the Captain.
"Yes, sir." came the response.
White Star Eleven
"Delenn, the auto-repair systems can have the ship fully
recharged in 45 minutes," Lennier reported.
"Good. In those minutes, you and I will go to see Draal,"
she said. "Prepare a shuttle." she added.
"As you wish" came the response.
Epsilon III, Draal's Chamber:
"Delenn, it is good to see you again," the hologram of her
friend said. "But I wish the circumstances were better."
he added.
"Draal, we need to find a way to beat the Imperials," she
said.
"I cannot change where in space the rift points to, Delenn,
nor can I close it. The Imperial device on the other side
prevents that." Draal said sadly.
After thinking about this for a few minutes, Delenn got an
idea. "Draal, you said you could not change where in space
the rift points to. But could you change where in
time it points to?"
"Yesss, I can," he said. "Excellent idea, Delenn." he
replied.
"You taught me well," she said. "Make the rift point to
before the ISD Chimaera first appeared." she said.
"Yes, Delenn, I can do that. When you get to the other
side, you must destroy the device. That is the only hope
of two galaxies. I cannot allow the Imperials to get their
hands on this planet, or they will go back through the rift
with some of the technology here and conquer both galaxies.
I will destroy this planet first." Draal said.
"Hurry, Delenn, there is not much time." he said.
Draal and Delenn bowed to each other, and she left the
room.
White Star Eleven:
"Lennier, what is our status?" Delenn asked as she entered
the bridge.
"All systems fully recharged," he reported. "Ready to
leave at any time." he added.
"Then take us out of here and head for the rift."
ISD Chimaera:
"Admiral," Palleon called, "one of the enemy ships survived
and is leaving the surface of the planet at high speed."
the Captain reported.
"Destroy them." the Admiral responded.
White Star Eleven:
"We are approaching the rift, Delenn," Lennier reported.
"Fighters in pursuit," he added.
"What is our status?" the Minbari woman asked.
"Minor damage to the aft section of the ship, auto-repair
systems are handling it."
"Very well," Delenn said, "Take us in."
ISD Chimaera, Secret Location
Grand Admiral Thrawn looked out the window on the bridge of
the ISD Chimaera. The rift in space was visible to the
naked eye now, the device to enlarge the rift had taken
over ten years to complete.
It had been started at the Emperor's order long ago. When
the rift was first discovered it was too small for a
TIE-Fighter to pass through. It took the Empire's best
minds a decade to discover how to enlarge it. The only
reason for such a large effort for something so small wsa
the possibility that the rift would take an object across
the universe to another galaxy. The Emperor had thought
that this would be a way to expand his empire. After his
death, Thrawn had kept the project alive, hoping the rift
would lead to another galaxy with technologies they could
use to defeat the Rebels and restore Imperial rule to the
galaxy. Now a Star Destroyer could pass through easily.
Thrawn hoped the long project would pay off and help him
defeat the rebels. "Captain Palleon," he started then
stopped at the sight of a small purple ship coming out of
the rift. Before they could do anything, the ship turned,
destroyed the device--
--and vanished.
"WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?!" the Admiral demanded angrily.
The Captain checked the instruments and said, "Sir, the
unknown ship's destruction of the device has collapsed the
rift permanently." he responded. "And we can find no trace
of the ship, either."
C&C, Babylon 5:
Commander Ivanova looked out the window at ships coming and
departing. This is going to be a long day, she
thought. 19 scheduled to dock and 11 to depart. The
wounded from the fleet were still being brought onto the
station and to Medlab for treatment. The Shadow and Vorlon
fleets had done a lot of damage, and the fleet had lost a
lot of ships. The ships that were in working order were
patrolling the area in case Earth tried to take the station
again. This would be the perfect time for Earth to
strike. With the fleet badly damaged, the station overrun
with wounded, and the alien governments recovering from the
recent war, no-one would go to war with Earth over an
attack on the station. Just when she thought that things
could not get any worse, the scanners started to beep.
Curious, she thought, a momentary increase in
radiation from Sector 14, where Babylon 4 disappeared--then
it vanished. Great, she thought. Just when I was hoping
things would get interesting...
Epilogue
Epsilon III, Draal's Chamber:
The critical two days had passed and no sign of the
Imperials, Draal thought. I did not tell Delenn
that the Great Machine has an equally great time-stabiliser
in it, which protected the planet from the change in the
timeline. Draal smiled at the thought that his old
student Delenn had saved two galaxies from Imperial
conquest and would never even know it...
