Somewhere in Greece:
"It's a wonderful morning, isn't it, Xena?" Gabrielle asked.
"Yeah, great," Xena mumbled. The two women walked down the trail for a few minutes when Xena suddenly stopped. "Do you hear something?" Xena asked Gabrielle while listening carefully.
"Yes, look!" Gabrielle said, pointing to the sky.
A very strange object was heading their way. It looked kind of like an octopus but the colors on it changed constantly, shifting. It looked both beatiful and dangerous at the same time, and it was landing ahead of them.
"Gabrielle, get behind those trees, quick!" Xena ordered, heading for them herself.
As soon as the object landed, three strange purle-suited figures seemed to walk right out of it, with no sign of a door. They seemed to be wearing huge collars with strange capes hanging from them, helmets that were the wrong shape for a human head with little glowing circles in them that got larger and smaller, and they had no arms.
Xena assumed that they were Demons of some sort and went to confront them. "Who are you?" she asked the figure that appeared to be leading.
The only response was, "You are needed," and the three of them tried to surround Xena and Gabrielle. Gabrielle struck one in the...head? and had no effect; meanwhile, XEna struck one in a similar fashion with her sword and cut the "head" of one right off! What looked like a cross between a water fountain and lightning shot out of where the "head" was. This seemed to anger the other Demons because their glowing circles got larger and started to glow a deep red. Xena and Gabrielle collapsed to the ground unconsious...
C&C, Babylon 5, 2,360 Years Later:
Commander Ivanova looked out the window and sighed. This is going to be a busy day, she thought. The was was getting ugly, the Shadows were attacking everything in sight. The result of all this : dozens of ships looking to dock, dozens more wanting to depart, which meant more work for her.
Just as she thought that things were going to be like this forever, she noticed something. The same strange increase in radiation.
She immediately tapped her link. "Ivanova to Sheridan." she said into it.
"Sheridan, go." came the response.
"Captain, we're detecing an increase in radiation coming from Sector 14," she reported.
"I'm on my way," he said, surprised. "Sheridan, out."
"So what have we got, Commander?" Sheridan asked as he walked into C&C.
"We're picking up an auto distress beacon from a standard commercial escape pod," she reported.
"Send one shuttle and four fighters to pick it up." he orderd.
"Done." Ivanova replied. "I estimate three hours 'till intercept and three hours to return. Round trip six hours." Ivanova reported.
"Any ships reported missing in that area?" Sheridan asked.
"None." she responded.
"Then we wait..." he thought aloud.
Shuttle 1, Sector 14, Three Hours Later:
That's strange, Garibaldi thought. No rift this time. "Okay, got the pod, all ships return to base." he radioed to the fighters and set his course for home.
Docking Bay 23, Three Hours Later:
Dr. Franklin watched as the techs opened the pod. Loooking inside, he was surprised to see two women lying on the floor of the pod. He checked their pulses and found that they were alive but unconscious. He gave them each a stimulant and they soon regained consciousness.
The black-haired one suddenly jumped up and drew a sword. He tried to speak to her but she did not understand his language. Strange, he thought. Most Humans know Standard. But he did not have time to speculate further as the other one was now armed with a staff and the guards were drawing their weapons. There probably would have been a bloodbath if the telepath, Lyta Alexander, had not been passing by and been attracted by all the noise.
She sensed that the two women were very confused and did not speak Earth Standard so she gave them both a quick telepathic language lesson. That confused them even more for a moment but they quickly learned how to use their new language.
"Who are you, and where have you taken us?" the black-haired one said.
"I am Dr. Stephen Franklin and you are on Babylon 5," the doctor said.
"Where is that?" she asked, still pointing her sword at him.
Not thinking that they would understand the concept of space travel just yet, Lyta said, "The fifth city of Babylon."
The women looked at the guards' weapons. "Zack, put away your weapon," Lyta said. He complied, hoping that she knew what she was doing.
"Please lower your weapons now," Lyta said to the two women. They did so.
"I'm Xena," the black-haired one said. "And this is Gabrielle," she added.
"Pleased to meet you both," Stephen said, relieved to have the sword out of his face.
Medlab:
Doctor Franklin examined the two women, and gave his report to the Captain. "Besides slight problems with their eyes, teeth, and skin, they are both healthy. Both have numerous old wounds, probably from battle. How they survived some of them I don't know, though the one called Xena has many more than Gabrielle." the doctor finished.
"I'm going to talk to them," the Captain said.
Lyta was already talking to them when he entered. He listened as they told her about the strange object, the figures that were in it, and the fight. When Lyta was finished talking to them, she came and spoke to Sheridan. "Sounds like the Vorlons' work." she said. "Though I did not think that a mere sword could penetrate a Vorlon encounter suit." she said, sounding surprised.
"Doctor Franklin tells me that, judging by their physical condition, they are not from this time." he responded. "They have problems that could be easily cured today, various healed injuries from weapons not in use today, and equally crude treatments." Sheridan responded.
"I think that the Vorlons took them from around the year 100 B.C. and used the rift to bring them here." Lyta said.
"The big question is--why." Garibaldi said as he entered the room. "What possible reason could there be to bring two women from over two thousand years ago to the present?" Garibaldi asked.
"I don't know," Sheridan said. "But when the Vorlons do somethin usually they believe there is a good reason, though we may not see it." the Captain added. "Until we have reason to do otherwise, the two women will be allowed to move around the station. Assign them a room and let's get on with the war." Sheridan said.
Later:
"Wow, look at this place!" Gabrielle said with wonder. Neither she nor Xena had ever seen a place like this. The Doctor had explained about space travel, aliens, and more. The variety of aliens was amazing--those strange grey-faced aliens called Drazi, the weird whiteish ones with tentacles hanging from their faces called the Pak'ma'ra, and, strangest of all, the Centauri. They were strange because they LOOKED Human at first glance, but were actually not Human at all. The males had a strange, spiky hairdo and the women apparently shaved their heads bald--why, Gabrielle could not figure out. "Xena, look at all this," she told her friend.
"I am." Xena replied.
"What's wrong, Xena?"
"Those Vorlons brought us here for a reason. What I haven't figured out yet is what it is." Xena said.
"From what I hear, NO ONE really understands the Vorlons," Gabrielle told her.
The two women spent the rest of the day exploring the station. They found that the Zocalo was interesting but noisy. As they were headed back to the room that Mr. Garibaldi had assigned them, Xena said, "All right, Ares. Show yourself."
Gabrielle, puzzled, looked around and sure enough, Ares, God of War, appeared. "You know, I still haven't figured out how you do that." he said, surprised to see her.
"Returning to power." he responded.
"What do you mean?" Xena persisted.
"You see, the Gods draw their strength from their followers. Now that no-one worships the Greek Gods anymore, we became mortal. But I got passage here and helped kill a Vorlon, I think his name was Kosh. Well, anyway, I drained some of his energy, which gave me my powers back. If I kill another one I will become all-powerful and I will be able to conquer the universe!" he said with a big smile. "And there is nothing you can do to stop me!" he said with an even bigger smile.
He then vanished.
"Xena, we have to stop him," Gabrielle said, ready for action.
"I agree," Xena said.
"Are we going to tell the Captain?" Gabrielle asked.
"No, not yet. He would probably think we are crazy." Xena replied. "But I think I know who to tell..."
Lyta Alexander's Quarters:
Xena walked up to the door of Lyta's quarters and pressed the doorbell. "Come," Lyta said. Xena and Gabrielle entered. "Xena, what is it?" Lyta asked.
"The life of the Vorlon Ambassador is in danger," Xena said.
Shocked, Lyta asked her to explain. Xena carefully explained everything to her and waited while she thought it over.
"That BASTARD!" Lyta screamed, outraged. "Kosh was a friend of mine!" she screamed.
"I'm sorry," Gabrielle said softly, putting her arm around Lyta.
Lyta cried for a few moments then seemed to regain control of herself. "There might be a way to beat this bastard Ares, but it won't be easy," Lyta said thoughtfully.
"Tell us," Xena demanded.
"Captain Sheridan found that a telepath can disrupt a Shadow vessel long enough to destroy it,and it is possible that the same will work on a Vorlon ship. So since Ares is using Vorlon energy I might be able to disrupt him long enough for you two to get him." Lyta stated.
She did not tell them that it might kill her in the process.
"So, let's get him," Xena said, ready to go.
"We have to tell the Ambassador first, so he can be ready to free the piece of Kosh inside of Ares." Lyta told her two guests.
"Okay, we will be in our quarters when you are ready," Xena said. Xena and Gabrielle left.
B5, Unknown Location:
This might be a little harder than I thought, Ares was thinking. He was waiting for the Shadow agent to show up. Then he saw him.
"Mr. Morden." Ares called.
"What do you want?" Morden responded.
"A fast, powerful ship," Ares said...
Xena and Gabrielle's Quarters:
"So what are we going to do with Ares?" Gabrielle began. Before Xena could respond, the door chimed. "Who is it?" they both asked at the same time.
"Lyta Alexander" came the response.
"Open." Xena ordered.
Lyta had not even finished entering when she said, "We have a problem..."
Ambassador Londo Mollari's Quarters:
"Sooo, what can I do for you?" Londo asked.
"Ambassador, we need to borrow your ship," Lyta said.
"Why is that?" Londo asked, surprised at the request.
"Because we need to save the Vorlon Ambassador's life," Xena interrupted.
"And you are...?" Londo said to Xena.
"I'm Xena, and we do not have time to talk." she stated.
"Look, Ambassador, we need the ship NOW. If we don't get it the Vorlon Ambassador will die." Lyta said, quickly becoming annoyed with the Centauri.
"Why do you need a ship?" Londo curiously asked.
"Because theVorlon is heading for his homeworld, with an asassin following him. Surely you of all people remember the assassination attempt when Kosh first came to the station, and no-one would want a repeat of that." Lyta said to the stunned Centauri.
After thinking about it for a few minutes, Londo firmly said, "Very well," and headed for the docking bay.
Ambassador Mollari's Shuttle, One Hour Later:
Londo listened carefully as the three women told him about Ares, Kosh, and what was happening. When they were finished, he agreed that Ares must be stopped. "This ship has a few surprises in it--like Minbari stealth technology, and advanced weapons," Londo said proudly.
"I thought this was just a shuttle?" Lyta asked.
"Yes and no. I thought the 'add-ons' would come in handy one day, and it looks like this is the day." Londo responded, looking out the window at hyperspace.
Several hours later, the sensors started beeping.
"We are at the border of Vorlon space," Mollari stated. "We cannot enter--no-one that has entered Vorlon space has ever returned." he added fearfully.
"I entered Vorlon space, and here I am," Lyta responded. "Continue. We will be all right." The shuttle then entered the territory of the Vorlon Empire.
Nine hours later they saw it. A Shadow fighter. Londo checked the sensors. "How did you know it was here?" he asked Lyta. "It does not register on sensors," he added.
"I sensed it," Lyta stated.
Seeing that she would not say more, he checked the computer. "One hour to intercept," he said...
"Londo, scan for the Vorlon ship," Lyta ordered.
"Scanning--the Shadow fighter is firing on the Vorlon ship!" he reported.
"Fire when we are in range," Lyta commanded.
"Firing range in two minutes...one minute, thirty seconds...the Vorlon ship is gone...one minute...twenty seconds...we are in firing range!" Londo reported.
"FIRE!" Lyta ordered. The shuttle fired at the Shadow fighter with all weapons, hitting the fighter and destroying several wings.
"The Shadow fighter is going down on a nearby planet," Londo reported. "And according to my sensors, the Vorlon ship has already crashed there." he added.
"Land on the planet." Lyta ordered.
Vorlon Empire, Unknown Planet, Crash Site:
Ares watched as the injured Vorlon...stumbled?...out of the wreckage of his ship. Ares thought that with the Shadow weapon he had, killing the Vorlon should be easy.
Just as he was about to, he suddenly felt his powers vanish. He looked towards the east and saw Xena, Gabrielle, and the telepath Lyta Alexander heading towards him.
"I have jammed his powers temporarily, defeat him quickly!" Lyta said through clenched teeth. Xena looked at her and was surprised to see her eyes had turned completely black. "Hurry!" Lyta said again.
"Ares, this ends now!" Xena yelled at the God, drew her sword and attacked. Gabrielle went to the injured Vorlon and guarded him.
"Xena, it doesn't have to be this way," Ares said, blocking her sword. "Join me and we can rule the universe together!" he offered, as he swung at her again.
"Never, Ares! You have caused so much death, it cannot be allowed to continue!" she said as she tried to impale Ares. The duel went on for what seemed like forever. Ares had been practicing swordplay for over a thousand years and had become extremely good at it.
Not as good as Xena, though. She saw her opportunity as he swung and took it, shoving her sword into Ares's ribs.
"AAAAHHHHHH!!!" he screamed, collapsing on the ground.
Just then, the Vorlon walked up. "Your time is over," he said, and then the glowing circle on his...helmet? grew large and glowed a bright orange. It was like lightning was pouring of of Ares's chest and into the Vorlon.
When the lightning stopped coming, Ares, God of War, died, his body instantly turning to dust.
"It's over." the Vorlon said. Turning to Xena and Gabrielle, he said, "Your task is complete."
Lyta walked up. "Kosh is free, let's go home."
They walked back to the shuttle where Londo was waiting for them. "The Vorlon Ambassador is coming with us?" Londo asked, puzzled.
"His ship has been destroyed, so he needs a ride back to Babylon 5." Lyta said.
"Let's get OFF this planet!" Xena added, ending the conversation.
Babylon 5, One Day Later:
"Xena, Gabrielle, you both understand that I have to erase your memories of the last two days before you go home. You could damage the timeline with twenty-third century knowledge in the wrong era." Lyta said to the two women.
"We understand," Xena and Gabrielle said at the same time.
The Vorlon's glowing circle turned red and they both fell unconscious. "They will not remember anything," Lyta said to the Vorlon.
"Good." was all he said.
Somewhere in Greece:
The Vorlons picked up the unconscious women and put them into the ship. They then took their counterparts from the future and put them on the ground outside. Lyta walked out of the ship and looked at Xena and Gabrielle. Thank you, she thought. She looked at them for a few minutes and then walked into the ship, which then took off.
Babylon 5, 2260:
"Lyta, where are Xena and Gabrielle?" Captain Sheridan asked. He had wanted to speak to them but their quarters were empty and Garibaldi could not find them anywhere.
"Their task is complete." was all Lyta said. Great, Sheridan thought. She's starting to talk like a Vorlon...
Somewhere in Greece:
"Xena, what happened?" Gabrielle asked as she got up off the ground.
"I don't know," Xena responded.
They looked around at the ground ahead and noticed the signs of struggle, and the depression in the ground where the ship had landed. "What IS all this?" Gabrielle asked.
"I don't think we will ever know..." Xena responded.
