Background | Sloth Monkeys show signs of redimentary
intelligence (to other races), and a limited ability to use simple
tools. They are extremely curious and have a tendancy to be
consistantly underfoot. The creatures have never been observed to
harm a Star Fleet member or UFP Colonist, but are fierce hunters of
their main prey the Gi-Ants of Deridous IV where they hunt in
coordinated packs, and use simple tactics in spite of no apparent form
of communication. Occasionally they will make 'chittering' noises, and will scream and babble when agitated. |
Editors Notes | Their back set of limbs are used exclusively as legs,
the middle set can be interchangeably used as legs or arms. The front
set primarily used as arms, but may be used as legs if rapid motion is
necessary. The Universal Translator has been unable to make sense of the sounds and it appears unlikely that there is any coherent sense to them. One theory is that these creatures communicate telepathically, though no known telepathic race has been able to establish contact, and Betazoids are unable to sense any emotions from them showing a sign of possible mental shielding. The motivations of the Sloth Monkeys are unknown, but is accepted to be benevolent and harmless by the colonists of Deridous IV. Some Sloth Monkeys have 'adpoted' certain colonists and Star Fleet members, and are very protective of the people they are around. They occasionally disappear into the jungle for days, presumably to visit their families, but return and are able to enter locked dwellings of their 'adopted' families with ease. Only males of this race have been observed as Females are well-hidden. No nesting areas have been located in spite of extensive tracking, searches and scanning efforts. |
