Types of Ammunition

In the late 19th century (late TL5) all pistols, rifles, and machine-guns used solid ammunition, and shotguns used shot. Artillery and naval guns generally used either shell or shrapnel, although solid shot, explosive, and canister rounds were also available.

Shell; These round inflict the basic KE damage of the weapon with an (0.5) armour divisor. If this damage penetrates DR then the explosive charge detonates inside the target, inflicting the explosive damage for that shell type, and this damage ignores the targets DR.

Shrapnel; Shrapnel rounds inflict half the normal KE damage, however they will hit all targets within a cone with a vertex at the point of impact, and spreading in the direction the round was fired.

Explosives; Inflict their basic explosive damage at the point of impact, with damage being halved every 2-yards distant. Armour DR is squared versus explosions, which is why shell is used (explosions outside of armour will be basically useless).

Canister; Otherwise known as grapeshot, canister rounds have a similar effect to shrapnel except they are much less accurate. Any weapon firing canister rounds is at -5 to accuracy.
