Timeline of the Martian Invasion

1873
  • July 12th to 20th ; Astronomers record a series of green flashes from the surface of Mars, one each night. These are the great Martian cylinders beginning on their way to Earth.
  • August 6th to 14th ; The Cylinders arrive on Earth, recorded by human astronomers as falling stars. Four cylinders land in South America, two in Asia, and one each in Australia and Africa.
  • August 19th ; The Treaty of Congo is signed between the Martians and the Belgians.
  • The Martians begin preparations for the war, building their machines and arming their slaves.

    1874
  • February ; The Martians begin their conquest of South America. The Martian cylinders in other locations all claim a small area of land as their own, killing any humans who enter the area. The major powers all sign non-agression treaties with the Martians, however they also begin arming for war.
  • December ; The last human nations in South America surrender or are destroyed. The Martians begin 'Areforming' South America.

    1876
  • The Martians in Australia and Asia begin their conquest.
  • October 2nd ; Martian forces are severly defeated at the battle of Sydney. The Earth-Treaty is signed by all major human nations.

    1878
  • Martian forces in Asia control most of China, Siam, and parts of southern Russia. Japanese forces attempt to attack the Martians only to be firmly defeated.

    1879
  • European forces attempt a pre-emptive strike against the Martians in the Congo but are repelled.
  • Belgium invades France.
  • Martians forces in South America advance on Mexico.

    1882
  • France surrenders to Belgium.
  • China surrenders to the Martians.

    1885
  • Mexico signs a non-agression treaty with the Martians, providing them with logistic support but not military aid. The Martians begin their conquest of the United States.
  • Martians forces in Asia begin to advanced on Australia in the south, and Japan in the east.

    1886
  • German attempt to recapture France fails.
  • Martians in Asia attempt to invade Russia, and are firmly defeated.

    1889
  • Belgian invasion of Germany begins.
  • Martians begin to target international shipping.
  • Australian and Japanese forces launch a failed attack against Martian China.
  • The British navy begins a blockade of Asian ports.
  • Martian forces in the United States capture Washington.

    1892
  • The Martians in Australia surrender. The Overlords are tried and executed for crimes against humanity.
