The Special Service's Division is headquartered with all other major Starfleet commands at Starfleet Headquarters, San Francisco, Earth. We have a small field office on Starbase One to download flight recorders to Starfleet, and to our own databanks. Our field headquarters is based on the the largest, most centrally located starbase in Federation space. Starbase seven-four. Strategically, it is roughly equidistant between the Romulan, Klingon, and Cardassian Empires. It is large enough to support "jump-off" operational support and logistics for every kind of mission we mount, and has facilities to repair or refit any class of starship in the fleet inventory. The Alpha Squadron flagship, the USS Thanus, is normally berthed there. Also berthed there is the bulk of the SSD starship assets. The SSD also utilizes several classified listening posts along the Romulan, and Klingon Neutral zones as well as those along the Cardassian Demilitarized Zone. Those posts allow us to gather information on the activities within enemy space far beyond the reach of traditional sensors.

Our training facility is located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona, originally the home of the United States Army Intelligence Training Center from 1920-2198. Facilities there include a major medical center, flight simulation and training center, linguistics training facility, multiple arms training centers, exobiological sciences training center, survival training center, etc.

The SSD Fleet is made up of two squadrons, Alpha and Bravo. The Alpha squadron is host to the SSD's capital ships, used mainly for diplomatic mission, while the Bravo squadron is home to our small, agile, and ultimately triumphant reconnaissance and courier ships.
