Links

Please take note: If I haven't been as flattering about your page as you'd like, or missed out what you consider a major feature, bear in mind that writing descriptions for so many Jordan sites is time-consuming and that my memory is not perfect. All the pages listed are good ones, or they wouldn't be here. If your page is not here and you think it deserves to be, then email me. I may not agree with you, but I will check it out.

After the descriptions for some sites, you may see the sentence: This page deserves recognition as a Blue Ribbon site. What, you may ask, does this mean? A Blue Ribbon site is one that has obviously had a lot of effort put into it, that contains plenty of interesting and/or useful material, and that in general is a good place to visit often. For example, this page is a Blue Ribbon site. Arrogant? Of course! But there are several more on the list below. RP sites fall into this category only if they are interesting or useful to non-members as well as to those who have been around a while and know what's going on. Most aren't, which is no criticism of RP sites; that's just the way they work. Blue Ribbons are intended as a guide for those unfamiliar with the pages.

BBSs

Infogrames Book Forum: Created by the company who produced the Wheel of Time computer game, this is one of a large number of forums on their site. This particular one is dedicated to the discussion of the Wheel of Time books, and to general insanity. This page deserves recognition as a Blue Ribbon Site.
The Taint: the distilled madness of the Book Forum, housing the thread archives among other things.

The Portal Stone: Formerly Pages of Prophecy. The idea is to discuss theories, but there is a GREAT deal of off-topic and personal discussion here. If you're looking for a friendly community fine, but if you want to stick to theorising, I'd suggest you go elsewhere.

Roleplay sites

(Also see Dragon's Library, under Archives - not an organised RP, but fun nonetheless.)

Reinventing the Wheel: Founded by, among others, me, a fact of which I am insufferably proud. RtW is still in the process of creation, and anyone who joins now can also join in creating the world and storylines. All characters, PC and NPC, are new.

Patterns of the Wheel is actually a collection of RP sites linked by common membership and protocols: these include a White Tower, a Shadow Tower for Darkfriends, and several more.

Shayol Ghul: Another Shadow-based site. However, from all that I can see, this site is completely dead. No new posts have appeared in a long time, so they've either quit or moved.

The War Of Power and the Trolloc Wars: Two RPs apparently managed by the same people, set - well, you can probably work out when they're set for yourself. Following this link takes you to a fairly impressive introduction.

Tar Valon: A roleplay that takes place in and around the White Tower, at the beginning of the Trolloc Wars. However, this site may also be dead, as both message boards are down and have been for some time.

Dragonmount: This site proclaims itself the largest Wheel of Time community on the Net, a claim which is very likely true. There is plenty of information, various discussion forums, links to members' pages, and the RP section, from what I've seen of it, appears to be both comprehensive and excellently organised. The only quibble is that, for those who prefer a looser and less structured style of roleplay, it may be somewhat too organised.

The Netland White Tower: It's among the most famous roleplay sites and for good reason - I don't know if it was the first but it's certainly one of the most popular. This RP is set after the reunification of the Tower but before Tarmon Gai'don. I used to be a member, back at the beginning, but didn't have time to participate after a while and left. The story of my character, Leanna Anshar, is in my library under the title Threads of Silver (the first few chapters are also in the Tower library).

The Neon-Pink Tower: It's the Wheel of Time but not as we know it... This one's just weird. Fun, though.

Tales of Ta'veren MUSH: has recently moved and, to my complete disappointment, removed all of the information and resources that previously made it a Blue Ribbon site. I assume the RP continues, but not being a member, I have no way of knowing directly.

Dragon's Fang MUD: appears to be set in the timeline of the books, but I was unable to discover from the site exactly what the storyline is supposed to be.

Legacy of Chaos: This one is set fifty years after Tarmon Gai'don, with the world still divided by war and the Dark One only partly sealed away. Very interesting, from what I've read of it, but it may take time to get settled in and familiar with the new setting.

The Cuendillar Tower: This one also seems to be in the books' timeline.

The Great Hall: An alternate reality in the books' timeline; Rand has been proclaimed Dragon and a Black Tower founded, but the White Tower has had almost no contact with him as yet. The RP so far revolves primarily around events in the White Tower.

Individuals' pages

BURN's Corner: Strange and intriguing essays with even stranger titles. The page of a self-proclaimed genius who, unfortunately, hasn't written anything since The Path Of Daggers came out.

Random Threads in the Pattern: The page of the sometimes serious, often sardonic and occasionally schizophrenic Larry Homer. Alliteration aside, Larry has here both a collection of good theories and a second collection of very funny humour posts, some of which are also archived in my library. However, it's been a long, long time since it was updated. This page deserves recognition as a Blue Ribbon site.

The Soulless Home: This is the story page of Barid Bel Medar, a person who was clearly not content with waiting for Robert Jordan. Along with a group of like-minded writers, Barid is engaged in producing his own version of book 9, titled Towers of Midnight. It's rather odd in parts, certainly nothing I'd ever have thought of writing - and nothing like what Jordan wrote - but it's not bad. In addition to this project, the Soulless Home contains Barid's version of Path of Daggers (this is not a new hobby) and several other stories. As yet, though, he doesn't seem to have started on book 10.

Fal Dara: Home of Dazar Gaidin, the 'clumsy blademaster' and creator of a trivia test that may be almost as tough as mine.

StoneDog's Hold: A collection of essays, surveys and predictions, and a thriving (if dangerous to newcomers) community of WoT discussion boards. Plus what may be the star attraction for anyone who thinks the Wheel of Time should be made into a movie or miniseries, the Cast List, with pictures supplied for those of us who have no idea who all these actors are. (All right, that probably isn't many people other than me.) I agree with StoneDog on many of these (and disagree vehemently on quite a few) but since everyone has a different image of the characters in their head, I recommend you check it out for yourself.

Taardad Clan Hold: Several essays dealing with rebirth and previous incarnations of the major characters, some on various events and questions raised in The Path Of Daggers, and some humour.

Wild and Wacky Wheel of Time Theories: I think the title just about describes it, don't you? Caleyna Sedai's collection of clever but utterly unlikely ideas contributed by Wheel of Time fans. Why not post your own? - or enter the plot contest?

Wheel of Time = Laughable Fantasy: - The enemy!

Resource sites

wotmania: An extensive Wheel of Time resource page, with a lot of character and place information, argument on some of the more common theories, some articles, quizzes and contests, humour and a regular newsletter to subscribe to. wotmania also provides an e-mail service. This page deserves recognition as a Blue Ribbon site.

The Menagerie of Characters: all the characters in the books and who they are, referenced for easy finding.

The Wheel of Time FAQ: This is where you should go if you've just finished reading the books. Most of the more common theories are summarised, and reading it before you post saves you time and everyone else stress at the reposting of theories that have been argued to death already. This site holds a number of FAQs, including the pre-TPOD and pre-ACOS ones. The post-WH one is not yet done, and probably won't be for a while.

The Wheel of Time Treatise: A very comprehensive collection of information. This page is either created by several people, or one with a great deal of free time in which to hunt down references. Among other things, it includes analysis of the reigns of the various Amyrlins, and a timeline of virtually every historical event mentioned in the books. It has not, however, been updated since early last year. This page deserves recognition as a Blue Ribbon site.

TOR Books Homepage: If you don't know what's here, you should.

Archives

Dragon's Library: The largest and best collection of Wheel of Time and other fantasy fanfiction on the Web. The Scriptorium BBS is where stories are posted by various aspiring authors, including (ahem) me. It also hosts the roleplay that started on the WOTA BBS - weird, wild and wonderful, if extremely unstructured. We have Dark Sisters, we have the Eccentric Power, we have plots and plans by the dozen. We also have great parties, and you're welcome to come. All stories and RP posts are regularly added to the bookshelves. This page deserves recognition as a Blue Ribbon site.

Bill's Repository of Robert Jordan Fandom: Plenty of humour, if not all comprehensible, and the history of the 'Great Hoax' written by the masterminds behind said hoax. Plus some.

The Loy Files: The collected humour of Mark Loy, surely one of the craziest and dirty-mindedest people ever to grace the Jordan newsgroup. Very, very funny. Very, very filthy. Stay away if easily offended.

Miscellaneous

Dragonsworn: an online magazine for fans of the Wheel of Time, the Sword of Truth and A Song of Ice and Fire.

The Wheel of Time CCG: (CCG = customisable card game) pictures of the various cards, and some information about the game.

Betrayer of Hope: a fan site dedicated to the CCG.

DailyRadar.com - Review: A review of the Wheel of Time computer game. The reviewer obviously doesn't think much of it, but then, most WoT fans I know don't think much of the reviewer, either. This has a lot of comments on the books, rather than the game, that really don't belong there; while I haven't played the game, I gather from those who have that there are a couple of factual errors here, too. Read it and draw your own conclusions - then read the response by one of the game's creators.

alt.shrugged: A parody of 'rasfwrj' and Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Humour pure and simple. A warning, though; if you haven't read the book, and for that matter if you know nothing about the newsgroup, you're unlikely to get most of the jokes.

The Personality Integration of Rand al'Thor and Lews Therin Telamon: This is an essay which attempts to explain exactly what is going on inside Rand's head, and does it very well. Although there's only one item at this page, it's a fascinating read.

A Path Of Plots: Plot contest for The Path Of Daggers. Now obsolete, but some of the entries are so good I decided to link to it anyway.

General Fantasy (non-WoT)

The Century's Best SF and Fantasy: information and reviews of the best of the genres at Amazon Books.

The Recommended Fantasy Authors List: A good place to go if you're looking for something to read while waiting for book 10, or as a break from a steady diet of Robert Jordan.

Book-A-Minute SF/F: Ultra-condensed versions of science fiction and fantasy books, including all volumes of the Wheel of Time (but not New Spring). An irreverent and entertaining look at fantasy old and new.

The Lord of the Rings: Information about the making of the movie trilogy.

A Song of Ice and Fire: resources and message boards for fans of the George R.R Martin series.

The Evil Overlord List: Whether diabolical sorcerer or demented scientist, this list is a must-read for any Evil Overlord wannabe.

The Two Towers: Now, in my opinion there is only one thing on this site worth linking to, but that is definitely worth it. At the "White Tower" (whether the name is Jordan-related or not I don't know) is an Epic Fantasy parody funny for accuracy so much as for anything else. Parodies of other fantasy/SF subgenres are apparently on their way.

The Ultimate Monty Python Site: is just what it says. Granted, Monty Python is only loosely speaking fantasy, but amusing all the same.

Flame Warriors: All right, this one has nothing to do with fantasy at all. But if you post regularly on any kind of board, WoT-related or otherwise, take a look - you may just see someone you know.
