March 1st, 2005 [1806 hrs] - From the Past While driving to CHLA this morning, I found an old rewritable CD in my car's cd-holder. Looking at the brand, i could tell that I burned this CD way back in undergrad. It was non-descript, with only the words "Dance Music I" scrawled on it (in my handwriting). So, I popped it in the cd player. Why not? Then, my car suddenly started blasting "Who Let the Dogs Out?". I nearly blew my eardrums off. Man, I hate being reminded of what a loser I was (am). Oh, and writing the number "one" from "Dance Music I" with roman numerals is a nice touch. Very classy. February 27th, 2005 [2227 hrs] - Subtle Influences So I was driving back to MP today, when I decided to pop in this cd I burned. It has the freeway chase theme from Matrix Reloaded on it. Now, before you roll your eyes and go "man, that freakin' dork Eric", please listen to the rest of my story. So yeah, I was listening to the music, and I suddenly noticed that I was hitting 85 mph. So yeah, SOME of you might think "oh, 85 mph? that's nothing!". Well, for me, that's hella fast. I'm just thankful that I didn't decide to whip my car around, and start driving into oncoming traffic (ala Trinity on her motorcycle). Okay, NOW you can call me a dork. Punks. I will bullet-time your asses. February 19th, 2005 [2108 hrs] - I Got the Power! Soooooo........stupid Ean Wu (hereby known as Phaggik), left the entire 2 seasons of the new He-Man cartoon series on my desktop. So there it is, just sitting on the desktop of my computer, simply labeled "He-Man". I was pretty sure I was over my He-Man & Voltron phase (I think i finally kicked it by the time i was 18 years old). But then i opened up the stupid folder, and watched the first episode. Holy crap, it is so awesome. The NEW He-Man. Haha, just kidding. Here's the real link. The REAL He-Man. I'm reading the chapter on Pediatric Infectious Disease right now, in preparation for Monday's clinic. It says here I should watch out for Rabies. That's gonna be pretty tough, because most of the kids we see tend to foam at the mouth, regardless. - give this post e-props February 17th, 2005 [1720 hrs] - Decision Pediatrics. I think that's what I want to do. Possibly specialize later down the road, like in Gastroenterology. Or maybe Infectious Disease. But not Oncology. I don't think I could take that. btw, who knew County had a nice little lawn in the back? February 16th, 2005 [1811 hrs] - Clarification Okay, when you see someone write "hehe" on AIM, do you pronounce that as "heh heh" or "hee hee"? This is an important question, because I write "hehe" all the time. Personally, I think it's supposed to sound like "heh heh", but some people out there think it's "hee hee". Therein lies the problem. "Hee hee" gives off an innately more cute sound, as opposed to the more wise-cracking "heh heh". I'm not attempting to be cute. I'm trying to be a wisecracker. So if you see me write "hehe", remember, i'm not lifting up one knee & tilting my head to the side, saying "heehee". This is IMPORTANT! Despite my schedule recently, I've still been able to grovel up enough time, just so I can waste it on my stupid personal-projects. For instance, i'm making a sword. To be more specific, it's the sword of Magatsu Taito, a character from the manga "Blade of the Immortal." I can't help it, I like using my hands. That really wasn't as perverted as it sounded. Anyway, I scrounged up some balsa wood for this project. Tools include a ruler, couple of razors, and sandpaper of varying grit. I hollowed out the center piece, so that a 2nd smaller blade can be put inside (just like in the manga! wow, i'm soooo awesome). For the handle, I cut off the handle of a plunger we have in our bathroom. As far as I know, it's never been used. Let's just hope no one decides to take a dump-royale in the next few days. Progress photos: - the hollow center (yes! that's a boba in the background!) - 3 pieces, glued together - sanded to resemble a blade - plus, the handle Still a work in progress. Feedback is appreciated. - give this post e-props February 14th, 2005 [1024 hrs] - wise fwom yor gwave!!! hi guys, long time no see. so what's happenin'? a lot has gone down since last summer, so I thought this site was finally due for an update. You know how it is. I go thru phases where I can't stop updating, then I stop for about half a year. Nick, you know what I'm talking about. It's been a very eventful year thus far (my "year" starts when school starts, not when January 1st comes around). I've been thru my Internal Med rotations, Family med, Surgery I & II, Ob/Gyn, and am currently in Pediatrics. Let's discuss them: - Internal Med: my first rotation. As a result, they might as well have sent a headless chicken in my place. But I got lucky with my attendings. They were nice, and one of them was an asian guy with a pompadour. That was amazing. Rating: 3 / 4 stars - Family Med: I loved my office. The fact that it was 2 blocks away from my apt was nice too. I finally had the chance to skateboard to work every morning again. I wonder what the patients thought of that. I'll bet they were thinking "damn, that is one cool med student. He skateboards. I'll bet he plays Tony Hawk" (which i don't). My attending took me out to lunch everyday for 5 weeks. The nursing staff invited me to go to Universal Studios with them. I even got a nice pair of shoes out of the whole experience. Patients? what patients? Rating: 5 / 4 stars - Surgery I & II: I'm the Retractor-Master I'll tie the knots faster. All work and no play, Makes us all bastards. Rating: 3.5 / 4 stars - Ob/Gyn: awful. torturous. It didn't help that I can't speak spanish worth shiet. (btw, i used to think that Hispanic men couldn't speak english very well. I was mistaken. Hispanic WOMEN cannot speak english). But what made it torturous was the residents, some who drove me to raving fits of anger. I hate speculums too. I'm glad i'm not a woman. However, I delivered 2 babies, the 2nd one on my own. But thanks to Ob/Gyn, I'm officially a boob-man now. Rating: 0.0001 / 4 stars (for Gyn) Alternate Rating: 4 /4 stars (for delivering babies) So that concludes my rotation experience so far. What else have I been up to? Well, all i watch now is Initial D 4th stage, Azumanga Daioh, and the occasional new AMG TV series. I got a new video card, so I played HL2, which was neat, cuz I've never killed anyone with a flying toilet before. Oh yeah, I also bought a new car. The Volvo 740 is dead! Long live the Scion tC! Picture here. So, i've been promoted to head the ISRT (Illegal Street Racing Team) now. Membership to the team has swelled to approximately 12 wanna-be street racers. Just remember.....you don't need a car to join, and you're not allowed to actually race anybody for crying out loud. What are you trying to do? Get yourself killed? pffft. That's it for now. Drop me a line at AIM: immigrant hymn. Sorry if it seems i've fallen off the face of the earth. No tears, please. - give this post e-props Previous entries |
