As I look out my office viewport, I
am stunned into silent awe, as the sight of the Earth rise tends to do to me. Now
if they could only keep the air refreshers from spewing out that
"New Station" scent. Just what does a new station smell
like, anyway?
It
has been several months since I reached my corporate arm out
here, into space, and I am finding the expansion comfortable, if
not a little exciting. I cannot wait until I get to survey the
site for the new office on Mars. Then onto it's moons. Although,
I do wonder if I shouldn't go for the moons first, then drop to
the Martian surface.
Now, Phobos, there is a moon. Wears it's
scars of creation well, and holds up against all odds. Look at
that dent. Imagine the size of the body shop needed to remove
that little ding. Or a scarier thought, imagine the size of the
astral body that made that impression.
I do have a database of images of the Surface of Mars, and worry not, some will be
made available. I am told that time spent on Mars will be much
like spending time on a beach, nowhere near water, or air. Not
much like a beach at all, as far as I'm concerned. Examine the
detail in the image of Mars to the right. We have to do something
about all the red. Orange is more like it. I can almost see where
there would be land, and where a Martian ocean would be lapping
against the shore.
This is Lenny. He was the head mechanic on
the shuttle up here, this last trip. There was a little problem
with the starboard engine, and he went out to take a look. And
then he did it. There I am, innocently minding my own business,
when he floats up, and taps on my window. Scared the nitrogen out
of me. He made me promise I'd introduce him, so, there you go,
Lenny.
I have spent a great deal of time examining images from the Hubble Space Telescope. And if you
have not had the pleasure, I would strongly recommend paying a
visit to a HST image gallery. Like mine. I may just let you in on
where I got the images I have. Here is a shot of new stars
forming in galaxy NGC 2366. Maybe a trip out that way would prove
profitable, and educational.
