OVERVIEW

Two rival factions seek honour in killing their enemy. The target of their wrath on the other hand, merely seeks to survive and is entrenched in well-prepared fortifications.

SCENARIO SPECIAL RULES

Obstacles, Hidden Set-Up, Reserves and Fortification rules are used. Each player picks an equally sized force using the Standard Mission Organisation chart. The two attacking players should be picked from army lists that could conceivably be allies (or not, if you want things to get really mad). Each player must pick a HQ model as their general.

SET-UP

1 Set up scenery as normal. The two attacking players roll a D6 each. The defending player rolls two D6s. The player with the highest single result picks a deployment board edge. The defenders and attackers deploy on opposite sides of the board.

2 The defending player may place any fortifications and obstacles in his half of the board. The defender also deploys troops using the hidden setup rules. Units may be held in reserve.

3a If the two attacking players are ostensibly allies (eg 2 rival Space Marine companies from the same Chapter), use these rules. Each player rolls a D6. The winner deploys a unit first. Players take turns to deploy any units within 12" of their board edge. Players roll D6s to see who gets to go first between these two. Both factions act within the same turn, but one player gets precedence, moving first, shooting first and assaulting first. Appart from this, the players are on the same side and can shoot and assault through each other's units and cannot fire into units in close combat even if none of their own troops are involved.

3b If the two attacking players are enemies (eg Space Marines and Orks), use these rules. Each player rolls a D6. The winner picks a half of the attacker's deployment edge and places a unit within 18" of this edge. Players then take turns to place units on their halves of this 18" strip. Players roll D6s to see which player gets precedence. The attacking players each get their own turn and cannot shoot or assault through each other's units.

4 The defender removes any hidden setup counters and places models. The attackers go first (in order of who won the dice roll).

MISSION OBJECTIVE

Attacking players win by having their general kill the defending player's general. The defending player wins by keeping his general alive until the end of the game. Any other outcome is considered to be a draw.

RESERVES

The defender may bring on any reserve troops by his deployment edge at the start of any turn. There is no need to make any dice rolls.

GAME LENGTH

The game lasts six turns.

LINE OF RETREAT

Troops that are forced to fall back do so towards their own table edge.

NOTE: This mission was originally envisaged for a joint Dark Angels and Space Wolves attack against an Iron Warriors Chaos Space Marine commander. The Dark Angels and Space Wolves have a bitter rivalry that extends back to the early days of the two Chapters. They can be played either as allies or enemies. The Iron Warriors are masters at fortifications and hate the loyalist Chapters as much as any of the traitor legions. However, the mission can be played with any combination of armies. 1
