OVERVIEW

An armed force is seeking to destroy an inferior army. However, part of the attacking force may have questionable loyalties.

SCENARIO SPECIAL RULES

Victory Points are used. Both players choose their forces using the Standard Mission Organisation Chart. In addition, the attacker may choose an additional, distinct force with a points value of up to ten percent on the main attacking force. At the start of each turn, roll a D6. On the results shown on the chart below, this force changes sides.
Turn: 1 2 3 4 5 6
  D6: - 6 5+ 3+ 2+ 2+
The defender makes the roll at the start of each turn, and if successful, can start using the defecting troops in that turn. Any troops engaged in close combat will also stop fighting at the begining of that turn. Any troops in base contact with enemies must move away or the will be considered to be in close combat (no-one gets charge bonus'). Once they have changed sides, the force will not change back.

SET-UP

1 Players roll D6s to see who picks a board edge. Deployment zones lie parallel to these board edges and are 24" appart.

2 Players roll D6s to see who sets up first. The player that loses must place a unit first. Players then take turns to place models until all models are placed on the board.

3 The attacker always goes first.

MISSION OBJECTIVE

Use Victory Points to judge a winner. No victory points are gained by either side for killing members of the additional force chosen by the attacker.

RESERVES

Reserves are not used.

GAME LENGTH

The game lasts six turns.

LINE OF RETREAT

Troops that are forced to fall back do so towards their own table edge.

Designer's Notes
This scenario was inspired by a scene from the film Braveheart (when the Irish switch sides and join the Scots). The nature of the defecting troops depends on the armies you have and how you want to play it. The additional force may be chosen from the same army list as the main force, though more often it would be more likely that the dissenters would at least have a different back-ground. Consider the following ideas:

In small battles, ten percent may seem a little small (in a 500pt battle, this is only 50 points). Feel free to increase the points allowance (say 20%). When choosing this force, you may not have enough points to fill the compulsory 1 HQ and 2 Troops slots. When buying units, but a Troop unit first. If you have enough points, buy a HQ unit next. If you have enough points, then buy the other Troop unit. Fill the rest of the organisation chart as normal.
