Jackson Burton Background:
Jack was born to Henry and Bonnie Burton on Arivne 1, a scientific research colony in the Vulcan system. His parents were a civilian research team working on advanced propulsion systems in a joint venture with the Vulcan Science Academy. Jack was raised in the colony (mostly controlled bio-domes due to the harshness of the planets Class K atmosphere). When Jack was eight his parents advised him he would visit Vulcan with the other families that were leaving the planet. He was told he would return in 2 weeks...he never did. As it turns out his parents were working on a new energy (the Omega particle), some time ago, Starfleet discovered a very rare particle that contains massive amounts of energy. In order for the application not to be named a military project the "Omega Team" consisted of Starfleet and civilian scientists. When testing began the team was not able to control the release of energy. The explosion destroyed the entire colony.

After this the Federation deemed the Omega Particle to dangerous and further investigation was prohibited. Jack was devastated to learn the news that his parents had died, he was placed in the Vulcan home of T'hy'la. She raised Jack as her own, teaching him to control his emotions.

Allowing him to use his emotions but only if he was in control of them. At the age of 14 he was accepted into the Vulcan Science Academy. After two years there he was accepted to study at the Daestrom Institute. Upon graduation he began to work on theoretical energy systems for Starfleet and a civilian. After his work on the pulsed phaser array coil with Dr. Tian Jezz he and Dr. Jezz were invited to Utopia Planitia to work on the Advanced Starship Design Bureau (ASDB). There he worked on the Steamrunner class' triple warp core design and a prototype offensive weapon, the heavy graviton plasma beam.

While at UP the incident at Wolf 359 occurred, his team was in the process of updating the phaser array on the U.S.S Belphron. The Belphron was called into duty with the initial systems online only. Jack insisted on accompanying the crew to face the Borg with because his installations had never been tested. The Belphron was lost with all but 21 crew embers that were rescued in life pods by the Enterprise D after destroying the Borg Cube.

During this encounter his left knee was crushed while en route to an escape pod. An ensign came back to help jack to a pod and said he would see him back on earth. But that ensign never made it. Jack was so stricken with the sense of order, honor and sacrifice that Starfleet showed him he joined Starfleet afterwards in hopes of developing better and more efficient power applications for offensive and defensive systems.

Personality profile:
Jack had a complicated childhood, raised in a scientific colony by his parents (engineers) his technical skills excelled. At age eight his parents were killed and he was raised on Vulcan. Vulcan ideology was the basis of his up bringing but he was encouraged to experience his Terran culture. Even to express his emotions on a controlled level. He was taught to find his own beliefs and hold them as sacred. Jack concentrates highly on his work, focusing his self worth on the work he performs.

His experience with the Borg (Wolf 359) left him with a feeling of respect and anger at life. The Borg's use of technology and logic was fascinating but their lack on value on life and individuality infuriated Jack. His life devotion is to develop and support more advanced energy systems to allow the Federation to face any threat it must deal with.

When he faces a problem he believes Mediation (Vulcan) or viewing a different problem will get the mind open to new areas of approach. Jack had very few friends growing up and now cherishes each relationship he develops.

Special notes:
Insistent on order he is considered a neat-freak by some. Jack holds the values and teachings of logic from Vulcan as very truthful. Believing they that they hold the key to rational problem solving. He expresses emotion often but only allows his emotion to be expressed freely when alone, usually on the Holodeck (music concert). He visits Earth often and hold it as the home of his race, indulging in it's wonders and "trying to fit in" with Terran culture

Jack has a bio-neural implant in his left knee due to due to incident at Wolf 359.
