FACT FILE: F-24 Hawk
The Hawk is a well balanced fighter, able to carry a wide variety
of armament. Its solid handling qualities and dual beam weapons make it
a good all weather fighter, but what has endeared it to the pilots is its
almost legendary ability to take damage and keep flying. Probably the most
famous of the stories concerns the Anna Karena, a Hawk that was severely
damaged during the battle for New Glasgow. Despite taking multiple missile
hits and losing one thruster, the Hawk flew an hour long return trip to
the airfield, where it encountered a pair of Deathwings conducting a bombing
run. The pilot attacked without hesitation, destroying one of the Klingon
fighters and forcing the other to disengage. During the last moments of
the fight, the Hawk ran out of power, and the Anna Karena crashed a half
mile from the base. When the crash trucks arrived, they found the pilot
unconscious but with only minor injuries! That same pilot later refused
a promotion when he learned it would mean transfer to a unit equipped with
a different model fighter.

The Equipment Rating System
The preceeding descriptions of aerospace craft use a rating
system, rather than precise numbers. This is to simplify the factsheets,
and to make it easier to understand how each specific aerospace craft compares
to others. A value of zero (0) means none, while a value of 1 means minimal
and 10 means maximum within a given statistic.
