Chevalier De L'Enfernal (round 167)

Chevalier first appeared in the town of Sigismund. He teamed up with a Renchuite Wildebeast because he, wrongly as it turned out, thought him the surviving heir of the de Beaste family. Historically the De 'Enfernals had been the vassal of this family and its fall from grace during an ancient civil war had lead to the De l'Enfernals downfall as well. Hoping to rise once more with the de Beaste he traveled with him for many months. During this time Chevalier perfumed a few things of note. He reclaimed the Amulet of Orth from a rogue death cult, helped release Murasmus the Plague Demon and rescue the son of his friend Jurgan from another cult. This last act cemented a friendship that would last a lifetime. He won a captaincy in Jurgan's command during the Darhan war and then killed the high priest of Morana in single combat. This helped destroy the forest defences and let the army of Hesterus reach the new wooden walls of this town and also recover The Stone of Healing which cured the disease the grateful Murasmus had bestowed upon him. The army managed to breach the walls and deal with threat of Demons summoned by Megiarco, thanks in part to Chevaliers own plan. Though the army was beaten back, Chevalier's command was able to retreat in good order and suffered less than most others.

Upon the return to Sigismund, Avalor and Jurgan battled it out for the high priesthood of Orth and Chevalier was one of the champions Jurgan choose to fight for him. His life took a turn from those days. With the backing of his high priest he flourished. He killed the grim giant in the cliffs of Sigismund Isle and reclaimed his ancient title and lands therein. Baronet Chevalier gained much more for in that time he also met three men that would go on to be his captains and friends Lzar, Dubrek and Damfold. He also married the daughter of the Merchant Ebron, Claudial a marriage that would see much happiness love, two children and finally tragedy ! He befriended the mage Rhialto and another future captain Mad Jack. At this time he also traveled to the Shrouded Isle and slew the Behir to reclaim an Orthian artefact Hart's Axe a most potent weapon that helped Chevalier carve out his own legend. He went on to take out the pirates of Squat and become a Baron, an act that saw the ranks of his army swell and his coffers overflow with the help of the islands lord his blood brother, Namibsi and the Sqaut Isle trading company. This action also made him a lifelong enemy the treacherous Bob! Her callous killing of Captain Damfold was an act never forgiven or forgotten. He also lead the Orthian and Orcish contingent of the attack on the Balorn wood, where he killed the Forrestral and slew or put to flight 30 Sahmen heroes and the retinue of the Elven Queen, single handed. He spared the life of Sir Gerin in payment of an old debt he owed him and was forced to jump from the center oak because of the stupidity of Celestrial Storm! His Army swelling and the Battlefruit picked Baron Chevalier lead an expedition to the Serpent Isles and there met and befriended King Tarka Dahl. He returned in time to lead his army to the Diamond Spring encampment. Because his magical abilities had risen so high he was able to curse and disease the whole host of defenders with dysentery and then lead his army to cut through the defenders. The wielder of the Sword of Sahmen left impotent due to a cunning plan suggested to Rhialto by Chevalier. With the defenders destroyed and Chevalier and his men rich in magic and treasure, only the matter of Sir Gerin remained. The Renchu contigent wanted him killed and made into a zombie slave Chevalier however liked and respected the man. His own honour demanded a better solution and so he had him released and challenged him to a duel. The fight was a epic, the Sword of Sahmen magnificent in the hands of Sir Gerin a fine warrior but with Hart's axe in his hand and the magic of Orth filling him Chevalier finally prevailed, only just alive and minus an arm. Returning to the city of his birth he gave the Sword of Sahmen back to his King saw his Captains knighted and rewarded with many magical artifacts recovered in the battle. Chevalier himself went on to fashion for himself a living silver arm as a replacement for the one he lost. Whole again he dispatch Mad Jack and his command of 100 Orthian veterans to The Serpent Isles to aid King Tarka in his civil war. He also saved Sigismund from the lava flow that threatened it with destruction and built several temples and shrines at this time.

Then came a turning point in Chevalier life, returning to Squat Isle he made friends with the minor Corgulian hero Sir Weapon and recovered the amulet of Law for him from the Sahuaghin beneath the isle. With the amulets help, a treaty was struck with the Sahuagin that they could never again come to the isle and that sealed the mighty Kraken beneath it forever. This chance meeting would have far reaching consequences. Inspired to see what was taking Captain Jack so long on the Serpent Isles he returned there with his army, found Sir Jack and his men and with his help won the civil war for Tarka. He died just before this, killed by death incarnate and was forced to fight his way up the Moranan Tree of Life to kill the pretender and his Renchu Demon. With this rebirth and victory a truth and a gift were given to him. He saw what a true honourable King could be, and how despicable his own was and how he had served the wrong side so long. But even the gift of the Dukedom of Bisha and his revelation were not enough for him to break the bonds of honour that bound him to Hesterus. Honour was the one immutable part of Chevalier and he could never break an Oath or go back on his given word. He was tied to Hesterus until the King broke honour with him. When he returned home he found his wife and children gone, prisoners of the Vampire King, in trying to tie Chevalier more firmly to him the King had done the one thing that could and did set Duke Chevalier free.

He entered Bisha and there maneuvered behind the scenes and was crowned Duke of Bisha. He started a building program for the city and help save it from the Titan. All the while he was planning the rescue attempt for his family and the downful of Sigismund. He made new ties with old enemies, proving with his deeds that the old Chevalier was gone and a new man who opposed the evil and wickedness of Hesterus had emerged.

He went on to make good on an oath to Orth, when finally the Orth temple on Squat was finished, sadly now in the hands of Sigismund, he created a spell scrolls for it, calling on the aid of old comrades at arms and journing to Orths realm to do so. Finally his attempted to reclaim his family was made, on the basis of information gained from the Dianodian high priest, that the time was right, several hero's accompanied his with the help of the Doormaster of Way and Lord Namibsi, deep into the palace. Despite an epic battle with Slanter magic storm that proved only another Orthian could stand against him when his God talked in Chevaliers ear, it was a disaster. His wife and first-born son were slain, his second born snatched by a cunning curse of Slanter's. He returned to Sigismund in deep depression. Buried his family only to find fate had played a cruel trick on him, that Hesterus was dead and if he had only waited a few more days he would have been able to save his family with only a cost to his purse. He regained his surviving son from Sileesia and set off to gain the Plainsmans aid in ridding the City of the Thri Kruel menace and ultimately their aid in turning back the conjunction. With many of the band that journeyed to the Sigismund palace they entered a smaller Thri Kruel mound. Though they failed to reach their ultimate goal, they gained much honour amongst the plainsmen for their attempt. Deciding to work on this Chevalier decided he would stay on and try to cement relationships. Naming Baron Jaltra his regent he disappeared onto the plains vowing to return and soon as his mission there was complete. It is here that his story ends and a legend, perhaps begins. On the vast open plains Chevalier De l'Enfernal disappeared from the pages of history forever. Sketchy reports say that he died during a plainsmen rite, still others say he was summoned to another world, to help a great but ailing King find the item he needed to stave off the forces of chaos, those trying to unleash the Demons from without upon his world. That he found the simple cup the King needed and, in the final battle, took a golden spear meant for this King and was slain in his stead. His body and axe taken by white sisters, to a legendary Isle. His final words "When Bisha needs me most, I shall return!"

Jared Manderville (died round 13)

Jared Manderville died alone from exposure after sustaining multiple injuries from a fall whilst escaping the Citadel of Anor. He had ridden for many months to die in this Gods forsaken spot and his motivation was entirely selfless. Unfortunately Jared never managed to return to the Trolin temple carrying the plague he had deliberately set out to contract. The young man's good intentions, aiming to bring back a case for study prior to the predicted epidemic, fell prey to the ancient evils of Anor.
