Spark
A spark is the life essence of a Transformer, according to the characters in the Beast Wars cartoon. This also includes all past Transformers. It was also stated that Maximal/Autobot sparks come from the Matrix, and Predacon/Decepticon sparks come from the "Inferno" or the "Pit". A spark can be extinguished by extreme damage to the body or from high exposure to energon radiation which puts the Transformer into stasis lock. In cases of death, the spark of a Maximal/Autobot would return to the "Matrix", whereas a Decepticon/Predacon Spark would presumeably return to the "Pit" or the "Inferno". However, it is possible the "Pit", "Inferno", and "Matrix" are all merely different names for the same thing.
