Upcoming Events
2003-2004 Season
The league is up and running, and hopefully we can keep it active year 'round. Following each the current tournament, Monday will no longer be the official Blood Bowl night. All players are encouraged to continue playing anytime they like. Should anyone wish to come to my/Colleen's/Calvin's house, feel free to e-mail me and we'll set up a table for you. New players are always welcome and old players are free to create new teams, all players will be responsible for submitting their rosters and game results to the commissioner
Tournament 2004
This season's first tournament(currently underway) is the Spike Tournament(as described in the current Blood Bowl rules). For this, and all future Spike tournaments, we are using the system where all teams entering the tourney are randomly assigned 3 opponents to play, using only these games to determine advancement to the semi-finals. I'm going to make each of the 4 major tournaments played differently to add a little variety.
Tournament Rules
All tournaments are open to all teams and will start off with several weeks of preliminaries. Note that anyone running multiple teams may only enter one team in the tourney. In addition to the prizes listed for each individual tournament, each winning team will receive a "Trophy Re-roll". This will give the team one bonus re-roll per game(NOT per half) until the next year's tournament of that type(thus, you'll hold on to the Dungeonbowl Trophy re-roll until the next Dungeonbowl champ is crowned)
Spike! Magazine Trophy
This tournament will be played each April. Each team entering the tournament will be assigned 3 random opponents(in the event of an uneven number of matchups, one random team will be given a bye: a 2-0 win with no casualties). At the end of the playoffs, each team submits their record to the commissioner. The four teams with the best records will move on to the semi-finals(in the event of tied records, teams will be rated based on points scored, then points against, then casualties for, until the four best records are determined). The #1 team will face the #4 team, and #2 will face #3. The winners of the semi-final matches will face off for the tournament championship. The winner receives 200,000 gp and the runner up receives 100,000 gp. In addition, the winning team gains 1d6 permanent fan factor. Also, following the tournament, the Spike! Player of the Year Award is given to the player in the league with the most star player points, giving his team +1 fan factor.
The Dungeonbowl
This will be a single elimination tournament, played in July. Each team will be randomly assigned to a position on the tournament bracket(and in the event of an uneven number of teams, a random team will be given a first round bye). Teams will play through the brackets until 2 teams are left. The winner receives 150,000 gp and the runner-up 100,000. In addition, the winner may hire wizards for games at a reduced cost of 25,000 for the year until the next Dungeonbowl. This also applies to teams that normally can't buy wizards.
The Chaos Cup
This tounament, to be played in October, will consist of three weeks of playoffs, during which time any team may play as many games as they like, but no more than once per opponent. At the end of this period, each team submits its 3 best games to the commissioner. Each team gets 15 points for each win, 10 points per tie, and 5 points for a loss. Also, 1 point will be gained for each point scored and casualty inflicted, minus 1 point per touchdown against. The teams with the four best scores (team ratings being used to break any ties) will proceed to the semi-finals, where matchups will be randomly assigned. The winnings for the final are randomly determined(1-2: 100k to winners, 250k to runners-up; 3-4: 200k to winners, 150k to runners-up; 5-6: 300k to winners, 50k to runners-up. If the winning team is Chaos, Norse, or Chaos Dwarf, add +1 to the roll. If the winning team is Dwarf, High Elf, or Wood Elf, add -1 to the roll). In addition, the winning team gains the favor of dark gods: durng each game they play for the next year, they gain 1 handicap card(in addition to any others they may receive for differences in team ratings)During the playoffs, teams may issue challenges to other players.
CHALLENGES: Teams may issue formal challenges during the playoffs(first three weeks of the tournament). Challenges will follow the rules below:
1. A team may only issue up to three challenges during the tournament, and may only be challenged three times.
2. All teams will have until the end of the tournament qualifying period to meet a challenge. A team may refuse a challenge, in which case the team issuing the challenge receives a 2-0 victory(and the refusing party records a 0-2 loss)
3. The challenged team may arrange to have another team play the challenger(as long as the new team has not played the challenger yet in the tournament). The challenger must now play the substitute team, or suffer the consequences of a refused challenge(see 2 above, with the substitute team now considered the challenger). The original challenger may NOT arrange for his own substitute opponent.
4. Since there may be the obvious sheduling problems, all parties involved in a challenge should be reasonable about the time and place the game is to be played. Should a challenge be deemed 'unacceptable'(ie, the challenger can only play on a Wednesday and the challenged has class Wednesday nights), the challenge will be nulled. The Commissioner shall be the final judge in these instances.
5. All formal challenges will be issued via e-mail. A copy of ALL e-mail challenges must be sent to the Commissioner(Luigi). In the case of more than three challenges against the same opponent, the first three issued will be considered official(in this case, the challenged party should notify later challengers that their challenge limit has already been met). If any party entering the tournament does not have ready access to e-mail or problems receiving their e-mail(CALVIN!), challenges involving them will be directed through the Commissioner(Luigi). Let me know if this applies to you.
The challenge rules will take effect the first Monday of each tournament. Any challenges may be issued starting then.
The Bloodbowl
This tournament, to be played in January, will be single elimination. Because of the high stakes, it will only be open to teams with at least five games played(maybe more- I haven't decided yet). All teams entering the tournament will be matched up according to their win-loss record for the year, with the best versus the worst(with team ratings breaking any ties). In the event that an uneven number of teams enter, the team with the best record will be given a first round bye. The winning team gains 350,000 gp and the runner-up 150,000. In addition, the winning team gains a sponsoship deal worth a bonus 20,000 gp for every game played until the next Blood Bowl tourney. Also, every player on both teams that plays in the final gains a bonus MVP award(5 extra star player points).
Tourney 2002 Results
Calvin's "Eternals" were this season's final champions.
Dungeonbowl 2001 Results
In a grueling final match, I KILL U overcame The Morose Miscreants 3-2 in overtime. Despite having 13 players on the field for much of the first half, the cheating greenskins needed 3 full halves to overcome the evil elves.
