We are living on planet Earth. It is our home planet and should mean to us alot. During 5000 years of civilization on Earth man has learned to enslave the resources of the planet to his own convenience and comfort.
For 5000 years humans have been hunting animals for food and clothes, cutting trees for fire, construction and paper, mining ores for currancy and wepons and mine oil, coal and gas for electricity.
We haven't thought about the fact that Earth's natural resources are limited untill the begining of the 20th centuary when studies brought subjects like rain forrests cutting and animal extinction to the public's awarness
The current state of planet Earth is that thousands of animal species are extinct every day and many acres of rainforest trees are beings cut, thus limiting the Earth's air supply.
Millions of factories and power stations world wide use the natural and polluting resources of coal, gas and oil to create their elecricity, thus polluting the air and the land.
Very few countries recycle wastes and in most countries waste is collected in thousands and even millions tons. Some of the wastes are illegaly burried at sea, killing the sea life beneath the surface
The world today is polluted and its mineral resources are overused by the human population. We are destorying an ecological system and a planet from which we developed.
The subjects that need to be resolved:
1. Air, water and land pollution.These days the air's worst enemies are factories, power stations and cars.
Most of the factories and power stations today are working on Coal/Gas/Oil basis.
These resources aren't just polluting but they are also limited, cost pretty much and may be found only on some regions in the world
Today we can see that some countries that some of these resources are on their lands use it to create themselves political power and force their opinions on other countries in need for these resources.
In the developed countries today it is very hard to find people without cars. If we'll take los angeles as an example we will see what the large amounts of cars cause the city.
Because of the urban building system, the city people are living in tall buildings with very plants, trees and green areas in the cities. The cars' smoke is imprisoned in the city lines by the high buildings with not enough trees to clean it.
That is way if look from New York, or Amsterdam, or Honk Kong, or any other city by the shore, to the sea you will that the skies in the horizon are cleaner then the sky above you. This is an outcome from the smoke produced by the burning of the fuel in the cars' motor.
Water pollution is cause by two major factores - oil shipment and waste dumping
Most of us have heard about the explosion of the oil tank in the north sea of europe just a month ago, huge oil spot lays on the water and seals it off for air to the underwater animals. Birds that try to go down to catch some food are caught by the gooey, greasy substence and die out of exaustion or infections
Oil spots like this kill tens of thousands of animals every year, including dolphins, birds, fish, whales, sea lions, and more...
Waste dumping today is a big problem to deal with. In the US for example there are laws regarding dumping waste to the oceans, lakes or rivers. even though it is very hard to enforce these laws because of the high number of factories in the US and because many of these factories ship their wastes out or terirtorial waters and dump them there.
Wastes like these pollute thousands of rivers and lakes worldwide every year in a way which makes these water un-drinkable and un-bathable.
It also kills many of the sea animals that get sick from the wastes thrown to their living space
Land pollution caused mostly from waste dumping create by consumers and producers. every city has a land fill close to it that gathers the city's garbage some of it is taken to unpopulted areas but the amount of waste only goes bigger and take more filling space each day.
Along with the pollution that we mentioned above animals around the world are being killed by hunters and adventurers who seek fame, or wealth, or just think they defend themselves. Many of the predator birds such as the eagle, the hawl and the hawk have been nearly extinct because mankind looked at them as an enemy, not understanding their importance in the ecological system.
The solution for our nature problems is not simple and will take time to be achieved. It is based on the cooperation principal explained in my next chapter. The solution will be explained first in the world wide level. Then you can read what you can do by yourself to help the enviroment.
Thinking of a way to clean water and air pollution I reached the conclusion that there is no other option then doing so unless we'd stop using gas, coal and oil as our main energy resources. We have three major exapandable energy resources that are not likely to be out of stock in the next few thousands year - sun, air and water.
If we will change to solar,hydro, and wind power we will be able to save money and resources and decrease air and water pollution in a way we'd never imagined.
In different places worlds wide scientists and car manufactorers are working on creating a solar car - car that will work on solar power. This will eliminate the air pollution produced by cars, making the air in the cities clean once again.
Of course we will need trees and plants in order to clean the air and so we must increase the forestry and gardening in high population as well as take care for the old lungs of the earth - The Rainforests
Our rainforests are the most precious and important piece of land the living world has. These huge forests are responsibble for create two thirds of the world's air supply. In this rainforests are living creatures and plants that human have yet discovered. One of them might even be the break through for a cure for cancer or for AIDS. think about it.
The rainforests should be owned by no country for these rainforest are very strong political weapon. They should be under international rule with laws and regulations that are agreed by all countries about hunting, wood cutting, research expaditions and tourism in the rainforests.
The law enforcement of the rainforest should of an international organization of volonteers that will learn to live in the forests and will go through a special training in the rainforest laws and in law enforcements. There is a great potential in this system since once the rainforests are within international control all countries can monitor the changes in the rainforest and stop harming it
Well it's all up to us, really.
Since we're the ones that educate the children it's our resposibility to teach them about the enviromental problems we're now facing.
