Aerobats

Dancers in the sky are we,
So graceful when we fly;
Dancing 'round the clouds of white
Amid the bluest sky.

I'll peal away from level flight
And tip my wing to thee,
As too, your loop will move the earth
Expressing joy to me.

Then you sneak below, behind,
Pehaps to catch my tail,
To play remembered combat games
Though none today prevail.

Playing thus you shoot me down
So I will dive away
Untill your turn will come, my friend,
For me to have my way.

To fly with thee is such that I
Need never fly alone
So two planes there shall ever be
Aloft, when flying home.

  To Fly

   Enchanted, entranced
      To soar through the air.
         All of my senses
            Alive and aware....

                    Of each and every
                         Sight and sound
                             I'm born again
                                 When leaving the ground...

                                            Behind and below
                                          The earth moves away
                                       It's here in the air
                                    I wish I could stay..

                                Forever. Alas
                             Come down I must.
                           If just to refuel
                        Then, again, to lust...

                  For the sky so vast,
               So crisp and clear.
            Earth far below,
        Clouds so near...

That I reach out
  To touch them, yet...
    They disappear
       The closer I get...

               To the sun, so bright
                    That warms my heart.
                         The chill of my life
                             Must then, depart...

                                  Leaving my soul
                                     New, fresh and clean.
                                       Flying, I reach
                                          For a rainbow's beam...

                                      That floods the sky
                                   With light and color,
                                 And captures the heart
                               Of this airplane lover.

                      Once...again...and ever,
To fly is to live the dream.

A UL in flight

My Shadow and Me

Chasing just a shadow
Flying low across the land,
Who seems to still be grounded
By gravity's command.

Keeping pace, it flies with me
Beneath my watchful eye,
Right through and over obstacles
This phantom plane will fly.

But I, unlike the shadow, know
'Tis I who block the sun,
And smiling to myself, to hear
My engine's steady hum.

The engine purrs, in song to me
To give me power to fly,
And too gives life to shadow planes
When sunlight fills the sky.

And so, today a shadow knows
The power to command
The flight of SPIRIT in the air
Of shadows on the land.

My shadow and I, we fly along
O'er rolling hills of green,
With engine, wings and midday sun
And--nothing--in between....
............................................My shadow and me.

Artist

How can we judge a work of art
Whose very truth comes from the heart,
As it takes form before our eyes,
The artist's dream of open skies?

Though he'll not hurry it along,
The work that seems, forever, long,
But work each task as only one
Until perfection, when it's done.

And now and then, overhead,
He hears a plane and shakes his head,
He'll smile and wish his work were through
So he could fly this dream come true.

But time it takes, this work of art.
Of which the man becomes a part,
As it will not just please the eye,
This work of art he builds will fly.

This background is from the EAA site, of the Chritian Eagles who were my favorites of the show, for many a year. I miss them dearly! So, the use of this BG is my tribute to Charlie Hiller and his awesome team. I hope they get sick of retirement and fly for us again at Oshkosh! I will be waiting. Thanks for the memories ~ JA!
