To you I present: Orko

When I first read the Tome of Magic for AD&D 2nd Edition I immediately got excited about the Wild mage class. Moreover I saw that Orko, the finest Cartoon Character ever to be seen on the tube, would make a great Wild Mage to play. I always liked to role-play odd characters in AD&D to spice up the game. Anyway, we had a campaign in which each character gets portalled from another plane and I chose to be Orko. Here are his stats for anyone whose interested.

Abilities       Special Abilities

Strength : 9 Fly 45' (class B)       Nahal's Reckless Dweomer, can choose any spell
Dexterity : 17 Doesn't need to memorize spells       20% Wild Surge
Constitution : 12 Doesn't breath       Permanent Surge Selector
Intelligence : 19 Learn spell from scroll w/o Read Magic       Make Other Caster 15% of Wild Surge
Wisdom : 10 Make other caster cast a Wild Surge
Charisma : 11

I got to level 14 with this little dude. I played with him through the longest campaign I've ever played, more than half a year. I'm pretty sure I didn't start at Level 1 though. All of Orko's special abilities other than: flight, no need to memorize and no need to breath, were acquired as he gained experience.

A few words regarding these special abilities:

Doesn't need to memorize spells
Orko has no need for spell books because of his magical hat. Any spell he studies is "stored" in his hat. Whenever Orko isn't doing anything he is studying his spells.
Nahal's Reckless Dweomer
When casting this wild spell Orko can choose any spell he has knowledge of (seen another caster cast it, read about it, etc..). He is limited, though: he shouldn't be able to try a Wish and such.
20% Wild Surge
Orko rolls on the Level Variation table but instead of the regular 5% chance of a wild surge occurring, for Orko there's 20%. Whenever casting a spell he must also roll a 1d10 and on 1 or 2 there's a wild surge.
Permanent Surge Selector
As per the description of the 7th level spell: Hornung's Surge Selector, Orko always rolls twice when a wild surge occurs and he chooses the favorable one.
Make other caster cast a wild surge
I don't remember now the limitation for how Orko uses this power but if you ever choose to implement it, it should be limited for 3 uses per day or something of the sort. To use this power Orko must gain initiative on the other caster and use this power instead of anything else he planned for the round. If he was casting a spell, the spell is lost.
