I have thus far managed to keep my personal opinions mostly out of this page, but thats about to go out the window here.

I remember watching TV one saturday a few weeks ago while sick in bed with the flu, while flipping through the channels something on the Fox Network caught my eye, 'Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog' now there is something which you don't hear that often. I watched the first few minutes of what I believe was the making of the Mystic Knights etc.. before being overcome by an unavoidable urge to vomit. Weather this was the illness or the obscenity I had just watched I cannot say, usually I have much greater control when I see the perversions that are aired on TV, but then this time it was personal.

The 'Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog' is produced by Saban Entertainment, the same company which has brought you such memorable works of cinematography as 'Power Rangers' and 'The Big Bad Beetle Borgs'. The Mystic Knights, which is slated to start airing in the fall, is an action series similar to Saban's previous works involving teenagers in cheep costumes fighting men in monster suites with laser shooting crosbows to save the world from the evil queen. I believe the plot line is episode independent.

What makes this show different from other children's programming is the fact that it is supposably set in mythic Ireland. Various names and places from the Irish myths are used seemingly at random and without any thought to the original myths which spawned them. For instance Dierdre of the Sorrows, is now a princess warrior who ran away from home to fight evil. This show has the potiential to ruin the great Irish myths for a whole generation should it reach the popularity of the Power Rangers. Children will never be able to forget their first introduction to the world of Irish mythology, and will grow up thinking that they are nothing more than names mentioned in Power Rangers in the Past.

Enough griping, what can be done to avoid this? Well neither Saban Entertainment nor 'The Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog' seem to have official web pages or email addresses, but most local television networks do. As an independently produced series the show could be aired on any network, but would most likely be aired on networks curently showing any of the Power Ranger shows. Some may have begun advertising it already. If they recieve enough response, they might even consider not purchasing airing future seasons (the fall season is likely already pretty much written in stone). 1
