Mutant Abilities: Telepath and telekinetic. Able to read minds, project thoughts (her own and others), able to lift any object at will Her powers are second to Charles Xavier's, whose powers are said to be second Nate Grey (The son of the AoA Jean Grey and Cyclops)
History: When Jean was a child, she was sent to Professor Xavier's school for Gifted Youngsters, because of a mental trauma she suffered as a result of her being in close contact with her
best friends mind at the time of her death. Jean's telepathic abilities were "turned off" until her body naturally matured enough to take on the stress. At 15 Jean becam a founding member of Xavier's X-men,
a group of mutants created for the purpose of insuring co-existance and peace between the two species (mutant and human). 
During her first few years as an X-man, Jean was the telekinetic of the group, able to lift any object with the force of her will.
Years later, Jean and a few other X-men were sent on a mission to an Earth space station. It was unknown to them at the time, but the space station was under the control of Emperor D'ken of the Shi'ar Imperium.
Emperor D'ken had sent his guard to intercept with Lilandra, D'ken's sister, before she could retrieve assistance. When the X-men arrived, they fought D'ken's guard. The space was destroyed, and the X-men had facilitate
a means of escape. There was a single life pod, the auto-navigation systems had been damaged, and someone was needed to manually guide through the atmosphere. Jean volunteered, her telekinetic shielding(she thought) would give her enough protection against the heat. She was wrong.
Before she could guide the
ship through Earth's Atmosphere,her tk shield was down and the Phoenix entity had made her deal. Jean would be sent safely to Earth in a capsule which would heal her body, and the Phoenix force would use its power to replicate Jean's body and mind in every way possible so as to use her for its new host body.
