Infestation : Part Two
Sisko frantically opened the hatch on his EEP. He climbed out and grabbed
his hand phaser, firing at the WormBorg individually. He ran as the AntBorg
got closer, momentarily joining Picard before they ran in different
directions, making more targets. A larger group of AntBorg took off after
Picard than on Sisko. He tried to make himself the greatest threat,
phasering the joints, melting them and making the AntBorg immobile. It had
the added plus of disabling the AntBorgs' phasers. Picard caught on
quickly, and stuck several AntBorg in one spot. Sisko started firing on the
WormBorg again, in a seemingly futile gesture, trying to save Calvin and
Hobbes.
Riker braced himself as the Enterprise E was spent spinning on its center
of artificial gravity. The stellar cartography area had been taken out, but
it was no big loss. No casualties except for his stomach. He ordered
another quantum torpedo barrage on the second cube, when Data spoke up.
"Sir, unidentified ship coming in. On an intercept course."
Riker swore. "Great, just what we need-" and was cut off as the Borg fired
back.
Kira climbed back into the command chair. She was talking. Not many orders
called out. Mostly Bajoran curses calling for the Borgs' bodies to shrivel
up into vole excrement. She stopped when Dax called out over the din.
"Major, incoming vessel. Unidentified. From what we can tell, weapons
systems powered up."
Kira swore and swore. Then she found out who it was.
The Eowyn burst out of warp speed, nearly landing on the nearest Cubeship.
It let loose a deadly barrage of quantum torpedoes and modulated phasers.
The Borg cube spun as it targeted the Eowyn with its shield disrupters, but
it never got a shot off. The Defiant took advantage, and flew off on a
strafing run, crippling the cube. The cube suddenly exploded, and Eowyn
dropped her shields long enough to beam down two very special packages.
Picard fired at the AntBorg, but it had erected a shield. He swore, and
threw his phaser at the Borg. It immediately destroyed it. Picard got ready
to run, but heard the whine of a transporter. Next to the WormBorg, which
Sisko had stopped shooting, appeared a female human child. The child,
obviously Susie Derkins, started her little dance and started to disable
the WormBorg piling on top of Calvin and Hobbes, freeing them. Then, the
nearest AntBorg exploded in a cloud of mist. An EEP lumbered across the
landscape, smashing AntBorg parts under its massive feet. Picard's
commbadge trilled, and he tapped it in astonishment. "Picard here," he
said, numbly.
"Happy to see me?" came a familiar voice.
"Commander Shelby?! What in the skies above are you doing here?!"
"Saving your sorry butts," she said, somewhat annoyed. "My new ship, the
Eowyn, fresh out of spacedock, is taking care of the Cubes above us."
"Very well. Picard out," he said, surprised, as the EEP wiped out another
bunch of AntBorg.
