The first thing that Chief Masters noticed as he awoke was
everything around him was hazy. He blinked his eyes a few
more times until everything started to come into focus. The
splitting headache he had made him take a little longer to
realize he couldn't move his hands or feet. "You all right Gerald?" a concerned voice came from
behind. "I'm okay. You?" " If you consider being kidnapped at gun point, being
tied to a chair and terrified out of my mind okay, thenI
guess I am. I was more concerned for you though. You should
never have tried to disarm Bryan by yourself. You could have
been killed." Masters took a deep breath. Now he remembered what
happened. If he could get his angles untied he would have
kicked himself. How could he have been so stupid, losing it
like that. He knew he would have chewed out any of his
officers if they had been so reckless, but there was nothing
he could
do now. It was too late to think about what he had done to
put himself and his brother in this position. All he could do
now was try and figure out a way to get them out of here.
Masters slowly scanned the room where he and Felix were being
held. "Great" he mumbled to himself. "What is it?" He tried to turn his body to face Felix. "No windows.
Only oneway in or out and that is through that door. It looks
like we have a bit of a problem here." Felix, always the neat freak, tried to wiggle in his seat
to fix his outfit. "Well, Gerald, I did ask you to put your
best man on this case. Steve will find us." Chief Masters took a deep breath and laid his head back
down on the concrete floor. "I hope so, Felix, I hope so." ********************************************************************************************************** Chez Felicity was surrounded by police vehicles. The
residents were up in arms with all the policemen that were in
and out of the building but Steve Sloan could care less.
Hehad two people missing, one of them his police chief. He
knew time was critical. Jesse and Jack stood backs against the hallway wall in
Felix's apartment. They knew better then to annoy Steve now. Steve Sloan paced the floors of the apartment waiting for
the forensic team to finish going over the apartment with a
fine tooth comb. He was
hoping they would find something, any slight clue that would
help them in finding outwhat happened to the Chief and his
brother. One officer turned and walked over to Steve and
frowned. Steve knew what that meant. He slowly made his way
to where his two friends had been standing silently.
"Nothing" he muttered under his breath to the pair. Jesse put his hands into his front pockets and wiggled
uneasy. "Are they sure Steve,I mean, didn't they find
anything?" Steve turned away. A look of disgust came over hisface.
"I know the Chief" he said softly. "There is no way he would
ever let anyone overtake
him without a fight." Jack put his hand on Steve's shoulder. "Come on Steve,
don't think
like that. I mean, the cops didn't find any signs of
violence. I'm sure he did what he was told. " Steve looked at Jesse and the two men grinned slightly.
Steve turned to Jack."You don't know the Chief Jack." Steve
leaned against the wall and closed his eyes for a moment.
When he opened his eyes it was as if he was another person.
He movedto face the pair. "What we need to do is start from
the beginning." He turned to Jesse. "Jesse, could you find
out what hospital Felix was taken to when he was beaten by
Carter and get your hands on the hospital reports?" Jesse
shook his head yes. Next,Steve turned to Jack. "And Jack.
Find out what college Felix and Carter attended. Do some
digging around and see what you can find out. I'll get all
the police reports from when Carter assaulted Felix. We will
meet back at my house as soon as possible." ********************************************************************************************************** Chief Master's struggled with the rope that held his
wrists and ankles together. Felix shook his head and let out
a slight laugh. Master stopped and rolled over to face his
brother. "Is something here amusing you?" "You. Typical Gerald. Always using up all your energy.
Such the typical macho guy." Master's turned away and
continued tugging at the ropes. "What would you like me to do Felix? Just lie here and
wait to get my throat slashed by your ex-lover?" Felix stared
at his brother for a moment then turnedhis face away. Master
knew he hurt his brother with that remark. He stopped
struggling for a moment and tried to think of the appropriate
apology to say. "I'm sorry Felix, that kind of came out
wrong. I know this is not your fault." "But it is my fault Gerald, If I weren't such a screw up
this would never have happened." Master's turned his body to face his brother. "You're not
a screw up. Your you. You can't change the way you are. You
and I were always very different. I was always on the defense
with strangers, always weary of new
people. You, everybody loved you. Remember in school? You
were the one who had all the friends. That is your
personality. Your a trusting, loving person." Felix
allowed himself to smile. "Thank you Gerald. I think that is
the nicest thing you have ever said to me." The two brothers
looked at each other, really looked at each other for the
first time in years and it was a wonderful feeling for both.
Unfortunately, that moment came to a sudden stop
when they heard a key in the door. The door to there prison
was flung open and there stood the figure of Bryan Carter.
His 6'2" frame towered over the helpless pair. Carter held a knife in his right hand. "Hello Felicity,
my love. I told you we were meant to be together. Carter
turned to Masters. "And how nice it is to see you again Chief
Masters. I hope you don't mind me taking off that ridiculous
outfit you were wearing over your street clothes. I just
couldn't stand looking at you like that. Master frowned. "Thanks. I couldn't stand being dressed
like that anyhow." Carter walked slowly toward Masters and
knelt down at his side.
"You know Chief, I think about you all the time. Every time I
look in the mirror and see this scar on my cheek, I think of
you. Do you remember giving me this little present?" Masters turned to face Carter. "Yeah, yeah I do." Carter held the knife close to Master's face. "Good
because I hope to return the favor real soon." Carter stood.
"I'll be back. Don't miss me too much." Carter turned and
walked out the door, double bolting it behind him. Chief
Masters and Felix turned to face each other.
