Summer
Elizabeth and the children made gingerbread yesterday. The picture to the left of this paragraph shows her cracking the eggwith Vincent and Kathryn watching the egg fall down into the bowl. Elizabeth didn't want this picture in, because the children aren't doing anything. Maybe not. But Elizabeth was. Hey: I'm her spouse!
Kathryn has been devouring books (as well as gingerbread) this summer. The only problem with the local library, from her perspective, is that it has no playground on the premises. I agree. When we lived in Nashville, we could walk to Richland Park, which had a huge grassy area and a library with a children's librarian who was (and still is working, I hope) wonderful. This weekend she went to a friend's birthday party, at a store that organizes crafts on the premises. I suppose it's the current version of other places that have birthday parties as main revenue sourcesChuck E Cheese's and the now-defunct Discovery Zone.
Vincent is reading, and after several months of almost daily headaches, he's doing much better recently (hurrah!). I cut his hair over the weekend, and when he doesn't have the back in a pony tail, it's a real mullet. Today, it rained, and he played out in it, so he had already had a bath by the time I came home. Elizabeth has been reading Charlotte's Web to him recently, a bit every evening. Vincent loved Trumpet of the Swan, and while I don't think he will identify with any of the characters in Charlotte's Web as much as he does with Louis, he should still enjoy it.
The rainy season is finally here in Florida (has been for about a month; we've been delinquent in posting entries). Today it's been raining on and off most of the day. Good for the plants. I transplanted ten bushes and small trees to our yard July 4, and with just a little bit of hand-watering they've been flourishing. Now if I can only get rid of the Chinese Tallow Zombies...
