RIP, 1988 Accord
Eleven days ago, Elizabeth was in an accident (no serious injuries!) on the way to her practicum. Our 13-year-old car got the worst of it, I'm afraid, and the cost of repairing it would have exceeded its value by many hundreds of dollars. It was a faithful car for us for more than nine years. It provided one last bit of service, by (amazingly) getting Elizabeth home after the accident, even with the front-end damage shown by the photograph. I spent much of the next week looking for a replacement, which is a mid-90s Taurus.
Still hurricane season
This morning, Michelle is spinning a bit south of western Cuba, and its projected path will take it near or over South Florida. It'll be a major storm (category 3, according to Accuweather's Joe Bastardi), and we still have to watch it carefully over the next day or so, even if we're several hundred miles from its probable path. We've been lucky since we've moved here, only going through one tropical storm, Gabrielle (which was probably a minimal hurricane when it hit the Sarasota/Bradenton area in mid-September). We had a lot of branches fall, but nothing more. We may not even get rain out of Michelle, though I'd still like a good shot (and north of the sodden southern tip of our peninsula).
Halloween
Vincent was a Dementor (from the Harry Potter book series) and Kathryn was the black chess queen. Elizabeth was Snapes (from the Potter series). I was a dad (no costume), and Elizabeth's mother Peggy was a Grammy (no costume). We put the jack-o-lanterns inside the house, this year, and the wind didn't blow the candles out. This morning, I need to put them in the compost heap. (No pictures at the moment.)
