Agent Beckett gives birth to a baby that ages to adulthood within hours. Meanwhile, the alien probe, with the help of Rayna who was once inside it, becomes a Jaridian warrior and sets out to kill Da'an.
This is a very good season premiére wrapping up some loose ends, creating a new storyline and introducing a new character. It's a difficult task, and there isn't really enough room to squeeze everything in. Every main and supporting cast member makes an appearance, although Joshua Doors' brief moment of screen time is hardly worth bothering with. Rayna (saved from the alien probe during Season One) also appears just in time to be taken over by a Jaridian. This is a surprise new development, and the introduction of this new race seems a bit strange and makes the Taelons plan seem much more reasonable than it did before, when we are told they are tryng to find ways to beat the Jaridian invasion force which is heading for Earth.
Apart from finally revealing where the probe was from and why, this plot is utterly superfluous to the show, and could have been left until a later date. Also, no-one seems to care that the alien has taken over Rayna, nor does anyone make any effort to save her. They just blow the warrior to pieces.
What should lead to some interesting new plotlines is the way the characters are shuffled around into new pairings. With the loss of Boone, Lili is made Sandoval's new partner. Liam also gains an instant bond with Da'an, not just because he saves the Taelons life twice, but also because Da'an finds out Liam is more than just human. The only annoyance is that Liam basically takes over Boone's exact role in the series, saving Da'an's life to become his new protector (as Boone did in Season One), and offering to work for the Taelons as well as the Liberation (as Boone was). Let's hope he gets some of his own plotlines to enjoy.
