Earth: Final Conflict: Subversion

Street is taken and hybridized and Renee must obtain a serum to return her to normal before she loses her humanity completely and starts to kill.

This is a difficult concept to swallow; all the way through this season, we've been told that the hybrids are nasty, cruel killers who should be shot on sight. The minute Street is one, she's got enough will and heart to retain her humanity despite the malign influence of alien DNA. Naturally, the obvious answer is for a vaccine to suddenly be found that will turn her back to normal and, lo and behold, one just happens to be made ready at the most convenient moment. Isn't it incredible how the heroes of shows always manage to get themselves cured from the incurable?

It's not all bad news. I like the idea that Sandoval holds the key to Street's recovery, and his bargain for a small island of his own to live out his years on is very true to his character, even if you might think he'd go for something even larger considering he is holding the key to humanity's salvation. What surprises me is that the government is actually willing to grant his request. Maybe they're planning to stick a few Atavus on there for company or something.

There are some good scenes between Renee and Street as Renee blames herself for what has happened (mainly because it is, essentially, her fault) and tells Street that her part in the fight is over. It would be nice to think that at least one character might get a happy ending. Much of the rest of the episode, however, is nothing less than predictable, with all the twists telegraphed a long way ahead and Street's final fate never really being in doubt. Much better to lead to the finale by keeping Street as a hybrid and giving Renee a reason to seek an end to the conflict to save her friend. Sadly, it seems that won't be happening.
