The worst nightmares of Stan and Xev come true when they enter the tunnels beneath K-Town. Meanwhile, Kai is judged for his actions when all he wants is to be thrown off a tall building.
Although still a little slow (and I'm getting tired of saying that), Tunnels is quicker than most of its predecessors and is a far better episode of LEXX in the way it separates the characters and gives each their own story. By taking Kai out of the running, it also makes Stan and Xev's perils more threatening as you know they're a long way from being rescued.
Once again the imagination frequently evident in the series flows freely with creepy insane ballerinas who try to feed Xev to a room of man-traps, and an equally loopy pair of doctors who are keen to operate on Kai. Meanwhile, Prince is roaming around acting in a much nicer way then previously, leading the viewer to suspect that he's the reincarnation of another character who isn't Prince. From the ending it seems to be May, but we have no way of telling now. This inability to trust the outward appearance of anyone is a useful tool to get things happening as you can never be sure who is inhabiting whose body.
The Kai sequence is particularly fun, though. Caught by a room of bureaucrats, Kai must answer their questions while trying to get over his malfunction that is causing him to act increasingly manically, singing, threatening to kill everyone in the room and finally getting his wish. The fact that his punishment is exactly what he needs is merely the icing on the cake and provides some good laughs as Kai keeps insisting he be thrown from a tall tower.
