Returning to the LEXX, Stan decides to blow up Fire. However, Xev has decided it’s her turn to be captain, and as Kai suddenly develops feelings for her, she decides to take the LEXX key from Stan through taking him beyond the barriers of pleasure.

And that’s it. Once again the 13-episode arc shows signs of stalling due to lack of plot. What keeps things moving is that Xev and Kai are both acting out of character, leading the viewer to wonder if they are who they say they are. At the centre of it all is Stan, who finally gets the chance to have his way with Xev, or so he thinks.

This posing as regular characters thing as all very well as a device to catch people on the hop, but it’s starting to become predictable now, as almost everyone has been someone else. While it allows things to happen between the main characters that wouldn’t normally, you’d think Stan in particular would be getting wise to it now as he seems to be at the centre of it all. Especially when ‘Xev’ orders the LEXX to destroy Water rather than Fire.

The saving grace is the return of 790, whose lovesick antics pass the time well. Michael McManus also deadpans some wonderful lines as he tries to deal with the robot head’s fascination for him. Stan’s sexual needs are becoming a stalwart of every episode and starting to get annoying and there’s too much reiteration of the basic principles of the season from the LEXX. Although a few vital pieces of information crop up, there’s not enough meat to this story.
