An Immortal named Mario Cardoza who has previously had business with Amanda takes part in a murder, and Nick determines to bring him to justice, unaware of what he is dealing with.
Now this episode is much better than the pilot. It keeps the style of the series as established, but brings the first Immortal into play. This works well to show Amanda's new lifestyle, as she is forced to take on an Immortal she was previously happy not to cross swords with for the sake of her newfound moral stance, and to stop Nick getting killed.
This is almost the second part of a two-part story, dealing with the aftermath of Reborn and bringing Nick into Amanda's life when he witnesses a Quickening. The rapport between Amanda and Nick is starting to build gradually, but it's still going to take some work. It's also good to see Lucy again.
However, it's something of a worry that the series works very well when it does the established Immortal vs Immortal thing, but not when it sticks to more human problems. Highlander had a better balance, and it'll be interesting to see if The Raven can pull off a similar trick. After all, it has a similar production team, who should be able to make it work by now.
