An old friend of Amanda's named Charlie asks for her and Nick's help in finding out what happened to his son, who he suspects was murdered.
There is something very wrong with this episode, and that is character motivation. In an attempt to provide some twists in the story, So Shall Ye Reap merely makes all the nice people turn out to be bad rather than trying to do anything clever, leading to an immensely implausible end sequence which seems to be tacked on for no reason. It certainly isn't necessary. The fact that Charlie's son was apparently killed to stop people finding out about some seeds that can make women sterile also seems a bit too much like Science Fiction for what is normally a more down-to-Earth show outside the Immortal trappings.
What also grates is the constant returns to Amanda and Charlie dancing, which seems to be the only time they encountered each other on the basis of this episode, missing plenty of opportunity to show some of their history together. The only aspect that does work is the poignancy of Amanda feeling honour-bound to help Charlie, in an attempt to atone for the fact that she still hasn't aged a day since they met. Elizabeth Gracen does a good job at showing the past that exists between the two; it's just a shame we never get to see it.
